Greetings everyone! Holding a US Passport, I was approved for my METV (valid for 6 months) I will apply for 3 extensions to extend my visa for an additional 3 months. Question, am I allowed to reapply after for another tourist visa after that? If not, what are my options if I want to stay longer and/or return to Thailand? Iβm not interested in applying for a long term visa at this time. Thanks in advance for your advice π€

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US passport holder approved for a METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) for 6 months, followed by three extensions totaling an additional 3 months, inquires about reapplying for another tourist visa afterward and seeks options for longer stays without applying for a long-term visa. Community feedback indicates that reapplication is at the embassy's discretion, and concerns about re-entry after spending significant time in Thailand on a tourist visa are pointed out. Suggestions include evaluating the need for an extended stay closer to the end of their current visas and staying informed about new visa options, such as the anticipated DTV visa.
Hey by the end of the 9 months, that 6 month visa for 10k baht might be available. Just relax and do the 9 months first. There is always a way for you to stay longer.

You want to stay long term in Thailand but not interested in a long stay Visa, but that is how the system works

When will we ever realise that we're not wanted here? Except as big spending tourists of course!

Well start out with the first and second 60 + 30 days, then you are in a better position to evaluate if you really need or want to stay more than 9 months.
Everyday life isnβt always the dreamlife it looks to be.
And whole new options may be available next year.

Whether you are allowed to apply for another tourist visa or not is up to the embassy. They can decide if they let you apply or not.
But even if you get another tourist visa, you'll probably have problems entering Thailand as a tourist after just spending 9 months there as a tourist. Each entry is at the discretion of the immigration officer you are standing in front of, and it's clear you would be trying to live in Thailand with tourist visas. That's not something you are allowed to do and they will probably deny you entry.
The new DTV visa, if it's actually implemented, might allow what you want. But you'll just have to keep an eye on the news to see if it's passed and to see what the details of it are.
You said you were not interested in applying for a long-term visa. An ED is a long term visa so I did not mention it.
It might be possible, but having an ED visa in your passport will cause you a lot of problems for future years as they are widely abused and immigration officers do not like seeing them.
