A few years to retirement, married to a Thai and we have a child. Working on a small resort that doubles as a home. Thinking about visas, would this project/business be helpful regarding future long-term visas? Just starting to figure out possible/best options. Thanks... BTY, very happy to have found this group! Great posts and spreading the word... 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on visa options as they approach retirement, are married to a Thai national, and have a child. Most comments suggest pursuing a NON-O visa based on marriage or raising a half-Thai child for long-term stay and work permit eligibility. There's also mention of the Elite Visa option if financially feasible.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Also the Elite Visa option if you have the resources.

Just to make sure, are you legally married with the rose border certificate?

Going on 14 years. Our daughter started Grade 3 today. We all lived in Saudi, where I work, up to 2.5 years ago. They both have only Thai passports. πŸ‘Œ

just to make sure, what your passport? Are you Saudi too?

Because of the need for the language, i.e. Thai, my wife and I decided that it was necessary for our daughter to go to school in Thailand rather than an international school in Saudi. As well, my wife was bored out of her mind...

excellent! Since all of you are currently outside of Thailand, I would continue staying there for now. Continue watching this group for information when the borders reopen. Once they reopen, apply for an non-o visa based on marriage and come here to Thailand

As of right now, the borders to Thailand are closed, however people are allowed in on an "urgent" basis

I deleted a thread with some wrong information on it. If you are NOT in Thailand already, I recommend getting a single entry Non-o visa based on marriage to a Thai wife, and then getting an extension of stay based on marriage when you come. You need to have 400K season in a Thai bank account, or income of 40K THB a month.

Cheers! 😊 I saw that something had been deleted, and I was trying to figure out what I could have possibly said that was "wrong." Greatly appreciate you letting me know what happened, and as said before, I really find this group fantastic! Thanks so much!!! 😊

If you're currently on an extension of stay based on retirement, gotten from an Non-O (NOT a Non-OA) visa, it should be easy to convert it to an extension of stay based on marriage at your local immigration office.

Thanks for that! 😊 And I'll reread your responses again. No. No present visa. Unfortunately, out-of-country due to quarantine. My question--most probably asked poorly--was looking very long-term. Trying to suss-out the best choice(s) for post-retirement visas, which will be in approximately three years. So, there is time to figure this out. 😊

What type of extension of stay are you on now? I suggest being on an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national or an extension of stay based on raising a half-Thai child - these extension of stays allow a person to hold a work permit
