Has anyone with a chinese work visa been able to get a “Covid-19 extension letter” from the Chinese embassy?

We have our flights back to Beijing at the end of the week but the rules to come back are so strict that if we go back I’ll need to pay to be separated from my family...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion reveals that foreign nationals holding Chinese work visas cannot obtain a 'Covid-19 extension letter' from the Chinese embassy, as these letters are exclusively for Chinese nationals. Participants advise contacting your own country's consulate for assistance. Complications arise due to the family members holding different nationalities, making it difficult for them to secure uniform travel guidance and assistance.

Thank you, I have all the information I need. I won't be able to get a letter from Chinese consulate despite us living there.

At this time the countries whose passports you say you and your family hold are NOT issuing the request for a 30 day unable to travel extension.

Not to be unsympathetic but you certainly had to see this shit storm on the horizon last week and you should have went back to China as soon as this started happening..

You all seem like you're on 30 day visa exempt entries AND all three countries passports are allowed to get 30 day extensions ONCE on those entries at the immigration office for 1900baht. DO that, as it's all you got.

IF you already did this and you go back to apply for another extension you will get the "extension denied" 7 days to get out of thailand stamp for 1900baht

Legally, under international law, families should NOT be broken up. I recommend to start calling up the various consulates of you, your husband, and your child pasports and figure out some way for all of you to stay together, and for you to figure out a way to leave Thailand.

Do not delay

>I’m here on a French passport so they tell me to go back to France [from a thread]

I understand only the consulate of your passport can issue those letters. The French consulate does not issue those letters. You can try contacting the Chinese consulate and see what they recommend.

Everyone in your family should have the same passport, or a long-term residency visa/ green card/ whatever it's called for a single country, so you can leave and not be separated.

But I am sorry to hear that :(

Our consulate isn’t helpful... I’m here on a French passport so they tell me to go back to France, my husband is here on a Uk passport so he is told to go back to Uk, and our 5 year old son is on an Australian passport so he should go back to Australia!!! Because of our work visa in China we are all on different passports so it’s making things very complex as embassies aren’t helping us despite our unique situation !!!

check the detail condition to travel one of your home countries, and ask your embassy. Many countries allow your immediate family to enter with own national.

you can't get the letter then. At this time the french consulate here is NOT writing it for their citizens,

A British friend just went back to China as has a job there, he's in a hotel in Beijing after being tested for the virus and been cleared. Now in quarantine. Not sure if this helps. Maybe he'll be kind enough to comment.

I know but why pay to stay in a hotel room for 14 days, one of the parent needed to be away from their child during all that time... Beijing is very strict!

You contact YOUR consulate <- (the country your passport comes from) here to see if you can get the letter.

whoops hang about. IF you are NOT chinese you can't get the letter it is ONLY for chinese nationals NOT foreigners who work in china.
