Can Canadians Request a Visa Extension Letter from the Consulate in Thailand?

Visa extension letter for Canadians is not possible. I received an email from the consulate today.

"Issuing a letter to allow you to stay in the country is not one of the service we provide. We are unable to issue such letter because we can not prove whether your reason to stay is genuine. What we can provide is an affidavit letter where you need to apply for it in person at the Embassy in Bangkok. It’s a free of charge. You will need to bring your passport with you when you come to apply. The Embassy can not guarantee if the letter will be accepted. It is up to the Thai Immigration whether they will consider accepting the issued letter or not."

TLDR : Answer Summary
Canadians cannot obtain a visa extension letter from the consulate in Thailand, as per an email from the embassy stating that they do not provide such letters. Instead, they offer an affidavit letter that one must apply for in person at the embassy in Bangkok, though there's no guarantee of acceptance by Thai Immigration.

Thanks for the info.

Thanx for the update.

There are 3 consulates that officially issue the "unable to travel due to covid-19" letter so people can get a 30 day extension; China, Italy and South Korea.

IF your consulate does NOT issue the letter, you cannot get the extension.

Now with that being said
@Ma**
you might as well GET the affidavit they will give you (seeing as it's free) AND go try to get the 30 day unable to travel due to covid-19 extension for 1900baht

I mean you're out nothing by trying it.

Good for them.

It's because Canadians can still go home.

that is also irresponsible too. People should be staying put right now for the safety of themselves and the public and not contracting any diseases from spreading.

It’s bad enough that not enough people are not wearing masks and governments aren’t even interested that people do.

Thanks, good to see that the Consulate take their job seriously.

The letter is not to allow people to stay longer, it is a letter for emergency reasons like people can not travel.
