For 30 days extension You need ONLY:

-passport

-copy of passport front page

-copy of stamp/visa page

-copy of TM6 form

-filled TM7 form

-two photos

-1,900 Thai baht

NO, the normal regular 30 day extension on a visa exempt entry does NOT require the embassy letter
