TLDR : Answer Summary
The ability to open a bank account in Thailand as a condo owner is heavily dependent on the type of visa held by the individual. Several comments emphasize that simply owning a condo does not guarantee account approval, with some indicating that a specific visa, like the DTV visa, could restrict this process. Suggestions include contacting specific agencies and a mention of TikTok services in Pattaya, which may help under certain circumstances.

Try tiktok services in pattaya. You can find them on Google maps. They told me a a few months ago when my account closed they could do it if I was married to a thai or owned a condo while on DTV.

Condo owners shd already have a bank acct....as they need to proof funds coming from overseas when signing the deal at the district office....property agents used to help foreigners (tourist visa) open bank accts with a letter of option to purchase (condo) ....I'm not sure if it still works

why do you send money to lawyer? Not the owner?

Since the money is coming from abroad, there is a delay, and the owner wants the money on the day of signing. Without a bank account in Thailand, this is not possible, so send it to the lawyer and the lawyer will release the money on the day of signing. You can send the money to the owner beforehand, but I find that risky.

Election due early next year so any rumors on the banking situation will more than likely change

Bank policies are determined by BoT...

Thailand has lost credibility over its non-transparent banking system

bank policy look it up. Just because people slip through the cracks doesn't mean that it's legal. This is why so many accounts are getting close because it's not supposed to be possible. are people slower what?

BrightDachshund800 you're partially correct. From my research, which is not infallible, it is bank policy, however, it is not illegal for banks to provide an account to DTV holders. If you have a statute to reference, I'm happy to be incorrect.

Relevance Paradox It's not illegal for banks to provide accounts. It's illegal for agents to lie to banks in order to get accounts opened. That's why the accounts are being closed. Banks don't want to give people on a tourist visa and account. That's stupid, from the business perspective. 🙏🏿

yes you can't, but I did It long time ago, still open, I don't see the problem with foreigners having bank account, how are they supposed to pay rent and bills, pay cash to the landlord every month or? To use Cash deposit machine to transfer to Thai Bank account you need a Thai id card or debit card, I'm not sure if it has to be Thai debit card, but In case it has to be Thai debit card, foreigners will pay all their bills and rent to landlord in cash from now on then.

Anonymous participant 347 that’s the whole point, because technically the DTV is a tourist visa, a tourist should not have condos and rent to pay lol
