TLDR : Answer Summary
A South African can still obtain a Non-B immigrant visa for teaching in Thailand from Penang or KL, as confirmed by recent experiences. However, it's essential to prepare the necessary documentation, including both Thai and South African police clearances, and be aware of possible fees at the border.
They now need a Thai police clearance + SA police clearance. Make sure you have all the docs! They also ask for 20k baht at the border, even when entering on non b
I would suggest using one TBH. Doing it by yourself seems risky and time consuming. You would think the consulate has a 'good' relationship with the visa people so it's painless and hopefully less likely to give issues! (My thoughts, atleast) I'd defos pay the extra 50 ringit for the help! No problem:)
