Are there requirements for spending a certain number of days in Thailand on an OA visa, and what are the check-in procedures?

If someone is on an OA visa are they required to spend a certain number of days per year in Thailand or can you leave the country for an extended period of time if necessary? Also, are there periodic “check ins” with immigration while under this visa and what’s the situation if you are out of the country when you are due for a “check in”?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Individuals holding an OA visa are not required to spend a minimum number of days in Thailand annually and can leave the country for extended periods without issue. However, there is a requirement to report to immigration every 90 days if you have spent 90 consecutive days in Thailand. If you are outside the country during your reporting time, you cannot fulfill the 90-day check-in. Failure to check in may not have immediate consequences unless you apply for a visa renewal or encounter legal issues.

If you had failed to check in 90 day at any point, and you left, when you reenter Thailand, guess what? .. you are all clear. Noted that when you reenter you should do the TM.30 report first, as your newest 90 check in will sometime requires the Tm.30 first

If you fail to check in 90day, the only problem is when you try to renew something they might spot it. Or if you are arrested, they would have a reason to fine you for late 90 check in

There's no requirement to spend x amount of days in Thailand on the OA visa, you are required to report every 90 days that you spend consecutively in Country

None of the retirement visas require you to spend any minimum amount of time in Thailand. You can get the OA visa from your home country and never even go to Thailand for all they care, they already got your money.

The only "checkin" is a 90 day report which is what you do when you have spent 90 consecutive days inside Thailand. If you are not in Thailand you obviously cannot report spending 90 consecutive days. This is for all foreigners and has nothing to do with your visa type (except for one small exception for LTR holders).

I will be able to tell you in May about insurance when I return again as my first year on the OX is up May. I arrived April 12th the IO did not ask for anything and I was stamped in until May 2027. Can not give info on much else as I am only here 2 weeks each month.

pretty much every visa/extension has a yearly check to make sure you still meet the requirements. With the OX it is checking that your health insurance is still valid for the next year.
