Hi, my parents are going to apply for an OA visa in Thailand for a year. I heard that they still have to report to immigration every 3 months? Do they have to pay something every three months at immigration?

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
When your parents apply for an OA visa in Thailand, they will be required to report to immigration every 90 days, which is commonly referred to as a TM47 form. This report incurs no fees and can typically be completed online. It's important to note that the OA visa itself must be applied for outside of Thailand, usually in their home country, as it cannot be obtained within Thailand. Additionally, some commenters suggest that a Non-O visa could be more advantageous since it does not require compulsory health insurance.

  • Use the trusted Thailand 90 Day Reporting Serviceto get your in-person report done and mailed to you for as low as 375 THB (even if the online system doesn't work for you).

You can only get a Non O-A visa in your home country. You cannot get it in Thailand.

You can get a Non O visa ‘for Retirement’ in Thailand, which is probably better anyway as no compulsory Health Insurance is required for each Extension.

Both visas allow you to stay in Thailand permanently if you wish.

Do it on line. They send you a reminder about 2 weeks before it’s due

Michal Strunc . . .your parents cannot apply for a Non-O/A visa in Thailand. They can only apply for it on the Thai Embassy or within the Thai E-visa system in their home country.

FOR THE VERY LAST TIME: you have to apply for a Non-Imm-O/A visa in your home country (or in the country of your main residence) YOU CANNOT APPLY FOR IT INSIDE THAILAND and also NOT in a country neighbouring Thailand

the question was: "Hi, my parents are going to apply for an OA visa in Thailand for a year" . . . . and my reply was: they cannot apply for it in Thailand. They can but apply it FOR staying in Thailand 🤣 😁 🤣

read what I said 😉: an application to a Non-Imm-O/A visa can ONLY be made in your home country (or alternatively only in a country where you hold an official resident permit) - and NOWHERE ELSE. Maybe you confuse it with the Non-Imm-O visa. This one can be applied for in other countries as well (depending on the reason)

Only if they don't get there TM30 sorted. It's a clever system to get money out of foreigners

Why OA? The O visa is much less demanding when extending; no compulsory insurance.

No need to extend the OA if they're only going for a year.

No, there's no need to pay. She can stay up a year after she applied for the visa or together with your visa extension.

The first one has to be in person and the online system doesn't always work for everyone in every location.

Yep... that's for sure... also everytime you changed your address... and sometimes even because the online system just don't want to accept your application for no reason... 😁

It's called TM47 (90 day report). Almost every foreigner that spends 90 consecutive days in Thailand needs to report it to immigration. There is no charge and it can often be done online.

no word about 7 days after the due date.

But there is a mention that if I leave the country, time will start counting again? Will they charge a fine at the airport upon departure?

I entered on a non-o visa for 90 days. I extended it a few days ago by 60 days. Can I still report this stay and how to do it because nothing has changed and they didn't say anything at immigration either
