Good afternoon all. I’m Vietnamese and entered Thailand on a visa exempt basis for 29 days. Am I eligible for an extension? I’ve read a post made by the admin here that was not very clear regarding Vietnamese nationals.

If it is possible, what documents will I need, now that the TM6 is not necessary anymore and thus not provided upon arrival?

Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Vietnamese national currently in Thailand on a visa exemption for 29 days is inquiring about the eligibility for extending their stay. The responses clarify that the ability to extend depends on the entry stamp received: if it shows 'ผผ.30', they may be eligible for a tourism extension. It is advised to visit a local immigration office for the application and to check specific requirements, as well as the potential for a Covid extension.

You need to go to the local immigration office to apply for either one. Check with your local immigration office for detail.

If you are in Bangkok, You are going to go to IT Square Laksi Plaza temporary office, just next to Lak Si station on SRT Dark Red Line.

You will go here.

Or, If your stamp shows 'ผผ.30', you entered Thailand on visa-waiver on a bilateral agreement and you are NOT eligible for 30 days tourism extension. You may apply for a Covid extension until 24 August. But if it's approved or not is at the discretion of the immigration officer. In the worst case, they say no and you would get a 7-days-to-leave stamp, and you have to leave.

You need to talk to your school about those questions.

Unfortunately. your "need Covid extension" wouldn't assure you to get one. Even if your application is approved, it depends on the school if the time is enough for your Non-ED process or not, and if you can 'convert' to Non-ED from Covid extension or not. Or it depends on the school which they want to prepare documents for you to apply at the embassy or the local immigration office.

I see. I'm already in the process of figuring this out. I emailed the school admin and should get a reply soon. Thank you for the clear answer.

Thank you for the prompt response. I understand what I have here is a visa waiver and therefore I will need to apply for a Covid extension.

This sprung several questions as originally I planned for an ED visa application in country. What would be the best way to approach this time-wise? Should I leave Thailand and apply for an ED visa from outside of Thailand? Or should I stay on a (possible) covid extension and apply for one?

If I should add this new info to the post please also advise, thank you.

Check your entry stamp. You as Vietnamese, either possible you entered on visa exempt or bilateral agreement, and both 30 days (29 nights) stamp.

If your stamp indicates 'ผ.30', visa-exempt, you are eligible for 30 days tourism extension. You apply for a tourism extension. General information is attached.
