I have a questions regarding the cancellation of my 1 year non b extension and the amnesty rules.

Both my work permit and extension of stay expire on May 15th 2020.

Today May 12th I went to the labour office to cancel the work permit with stop date of 15 May.

I proceeded to Immigration and they cancelled my extension and added the same date stamp 15 May.

I enquired if I was allowed to stay until 31 July 2020 according to the amnesty rules.

They answered me two times with a resounding yes.

What strikes me as odd somewhat is that they only cancelled it and no new denial of extension which would grant me 7 days.

I was under the assumption that you needed to request a new extension get denied and receive 7 days and only then be covered by the amnesty.

However in my passport it only shows the cancellation with a stamp for 15 May...

Any clarification from others with similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Although Immigration officer said I was covered I'd like to see comparable occurances of this with other foreigners.

Thanks you kindly for any assistance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user recently inquired about their status after cancelling their 1-year Non-B extension and work permit, both set to expire on May 15, 2020. They were informed by Immigration that they would be allowed to stay until July 31, 2020, under the amnesty rules. Although the user was concerned about the process, responses from others clarified that the cancellation itself places them under the amnesty and there's no need for a new denial of extension for coverage.

You are covered by Amnesty til July 31.

Giving you added time to plan your next stay ...here or elsewhere.

Good luck.

There is nothing odd about it. The amnesty supersedes the extension of stay denied stamp, and is automatic.

Nope, not true at all. Once you cancel your extension of stay based on employment, you are automatically placed on amnesty that lets you stay no later then July 31.
