Can I leave Thailand while my Non-O visa application is being processed, and can I use a different address for my application?

Hello all, I have a question about the non-O visa (my male fiancé is Thai). From what I understand, first I receive a 90 day extension, and after that I can apply for a 1 year extension. My question is, can I leave Thailand during the processing time? For example, traveling elsewhere in Asia or home to the States. Also - do I need to stay in the same place in Thailand during the 90 days + 1 year? Could I use his parents address in Bangkok? Thanks!
