Hi Guys,

I’m preparing my paperwork for my first o-a visa extension which is due end of May . I want to apply a little earlier on the 4th May just in case of any problems . I understand my insurance with Pacific cross has to begin on the date of application but they will only issue insurance for the 12 months.my Question is will Hua hin immigration still issue me my extension but only until the 4th May 2021 ?

Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is preparing for their first O-A visa extension application and is concerned whether Hua Hin immigration will grant the extension if their health insurance, which only begins on the date of application, does not cover a full year. Comments suggest that immigration may grant the extension only up to the expiration date of the insurance policy and recommend coordinating with the insurance company for better alignment with the extension dates.

Hi Nigel I work for Pacific Cross Health Insurance and from experience the Immigration will grant you the visa up to your expiry date of the Health Insurance but I'd double check with your local Immigration office

If the policy doesn't last a year, the rule that governs O-A yearly extensions says the extension will be granted only up to the expiration date of the policy :( So it's no problem getting the extension, you just aren't gonna get the year.

SOME immigration offices want the policy in effect on the date you apply and have it run thru the year you're extension will be valid for

ALSO

you can apply for a yearly extension up to a month early in Hua Hin, I wouldn't burn down all the time until it's due because if you're missing a document etc you run on overstay if you can't pull it off in time,

There is no down side to applying early because they add the year to your current stamps expiration date

I had a friend up here in Bangkok who got his year policy to start on the date of his extension application (45 days before his extension expired) and then we had to get a FULL year of policy but he bought another 45 days AFTER his extension expired so all in he bought a year and 3 months of policy and they pro-rated the 3 months for him

Coordinate your policy with your insurance company. They will adjust your policy to sync with your O-A extension.

Good luck.
