Can we extend our stay in Thailand with a new insurance policy after entering on O-A visas?

Hi, hoping the answer will be straight forward. My wife and I both have o-a visas based on retirement. We arrived in Samui in Oct and our passports give us until 30th Sept (based on our insurance). The visa itself states insurance ends on that date. The validity of the visa though i.e must be used by date is Aug this year. My question is if we take out another year's insurance and leave and re-enter Thailand with proof of that additional insurance will we get a full year from the date of re-entry? Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you and your wife take out a new year's insurance and re-enter Thailand before the 'must be used by' date in August on your O-A visas, you can indeed secure a full year of stay starting from your date of re-entry. Just make sure to present your new insurance document upon arrival.

Right, that is how Non-OA holders manage to stay in Thailand for almost two years from one Non-OA visa. Get the new insurance and re-enter Thailand on or before the "must be used by" date in August on the visa.

Be sure you have your new insurance policy in hand on paper when you enter Thailand. You will be stamped for a shorter period of insurance policy validity or 365 days.

thanks Ellie, we would take out an additional year's insurance, sorry but another question would we still have the multiple entry for the additional year or would we then need re-entry permits?

multiple re-entry permit 3800, single 1000, they are fairly large stamps.

, Multiple entry is only with valid visa itself. Once you past the "must be used by" date and you want to return Thailand on existing stamp, you need to get re-entry permit before you leave.
