I’m here on an American passport with a type OA visa extension. I’m due for a new visa extension next month. As luck would have it I may take a trip to Cambodia next month and I was wondering if they might stamp me in for one year as I see others talk about. If I did this how does that effect my visa as I am not on a visa extension anymore? Or am I.
I believe I would have to buy Thai health insurance again before I do this.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is currently on an OA visa extension and is considering a trip to Cambodia next month. There is concern over how this trip might affect their visa status since they are under an extension. Comments indicate that leaving Thailand typically cancels the visa extension unless a re-entry permit is purchased. Additionally, if the poster wishes to obtain a new extension upon returning to Thailand, they must provide proof of funds and health insurance that meets the new minimum coverage requirements.

As people pointed out, any time after the 27th of Feb you can go to the immigration office where you got the extension with your proof of funds and your proof of another year of the mandatory insurance (which went up from the 40k/400k out/in-patient it used to be to 100K USD coverage) along with the bank letters, copies, etc and apply for another extension.
Also remember IF you are exiting/re-entering the country you need to BUY a re-entry permit or you're gonna cancel that extension when you stamp out
If you are on a extention as you say. You will not get a new extention by going out and returning to Thailand. Extention means your original OA visa exprired and the right to stay in Thailand is extended. You can only request a new extention at the immigration in Thailand.
Jack. You have to request a new extention in Thailand. You can do that within 30 days from the date the current extention expires. Meaning you can do it next week already
