My wife and daughter are returning to Thailand in August one way ticket, wife thai and daughter has Thailand and British passports.

Daughter's british passport needs replacing in January which I will do once there home in Thailand.

Question is will the airport in the UK give them problems because her passport only has 5 months left on it even though it is one way ticket.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about potential issues at the UK airport when their daughter, who has both British and Thai passports, departs for Thailand on a one-way ticket. Despite having only five months left on her British passport, community members reassure that this will not pose a problem. They suggest showing both passports during the journey, emphasizing that she can exit the UK on her British passport and enter Thailand with her Thai passport, confirming this aligns with dual nationality practices.

The airline won’t care if she has a Thai passport. Irrelevant to them which one you use to exit the UK.

The airlines only care if you have another flight in case you’re refused entry into Thailand. In which case it’s their responsibility and cost to fly you back. Thai passport holders, even those with expired Thai passports cannot be refused entry to Thailand.

no i dont, but do they show both. Lol. Its confusing.

I can see what your saying, but i thought they were using the British passport to leave. Why not use the Thai passport or do they get different access with different passport, like arrivals in bkk

When you leave the UK on a British passport they don’t stamp you or anything. You flash the UK passport and they wave you through. They don’t care that you may have another passport going in to your destination. As said the airline won’t care about an onward flight if you have a Thai passport. Regardless that you’re not actually going to use it to stamp out of the Uk.

As Chris said. I'm half thai british. When you exit uk you don't need to show british passport, only on entry. Use thai passport on check in and entry into Thailand. Exit Thailand on thai passport and enter UK on the british passport. Please don't listen to other advice.

No, just show them the Thai passport as well. But why not replace the British one a few months earlier? Should be easier in the UK than through the embassy here

They’re not going to bat an eyelid about an expiring British passport if she’s off to Thailand and has a Thai passport.

Nothing to stop her leaving the UK on her British one and entering Thailand on her Thai one.
