Could someone advise me if this is going to be a problem I arrive in January on a 60 day visa exempt from the US. I plan on filling out the 30 day extension while I’m there but I’ve already booked my departing flight over 60 days 85 days to be exact is that going to be a problem with the TDAC or getting through immigration?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about entering Thailand on a 60-day visa exemption while having a departing flight 85 days later. Responses indicate that the potential issue lies with the airline's requirements for proof of onward travel, as they may not allow boarding without a valid ticket showing departure within the allowed stay. It's advised to check with the airline and possibly obtain a cheap onward ticket for compliance. Experiences shared by other users suggest that immigration typically does not inquire about the exit ticket upon arrival.

No problem based on our experience.

We planned our 3 month stay in Hua Hin to explore our retirement there.

We booked our return tickets (departure Paris on 24th Septembre 2025. Landed Suvarnabhumi on 25th September. Our return tickets were booked for 21st Décembre 2025).

On TDAC my husband put his return flight while I left it blank on purpose.

We both passed Immigration at Suvarnabhumi without problem and had the 60 days stamped on passeport (stamped: exit Kingdom before 23rd November 2025).

We applied the 30 day extension on 10th of November at Hua Hin Immigration (stamped exit Kingdom before 23rd December). The process was smooth.

We actually stayed 88 days.

Probably not as they very rarely ask to see it. But it is possible.

I've only been asked once in 33 years of coming here luckily it was one of the few times I had a return flight. I'd make sure you've got enough cash on hand for them , never been asked that either but it's a thing sometimes.

I never had problem coming in same as you 85 days flight home

BUT on the other hand I had a non o visa ( which obviously the airline knew nothing about ) and a 1 way ticket and wasn’t even challenged….so not all airlines are defacto immigration…. ( Etihad )

@Anthony *******
Etihad in particular asks itself about the visa during an online check-in on the cell phone. Otherwise you can't end the check-in.

@Andreas ********
they didn’t ask me … I checked in on line and just did bag drop at airport…. Not one question about visa or about 1 way flight ..

Surprisingly, I've been flying Etihad for 3 years. However, always exactly for 60 days. Before there was the 60 days of Viaum-free, I always had to enter the visa number. The risk of a The airline is rejected by entry. Etihad was therefore always very consistent.

@Andreas ********
I’ve been flying with Etihad for 20 years … 30 + times and this is the 1st time without a return flight … strait through no problems …. I had my visa printed out and ready to show and didn’t get asked once

Airlines are used as defacto immigration control. They get fined if they let you in without proper documentation. So it’s in their best interest to screen for this. It’s not just Thailand they do this for.

The departure field of the TDAC form is not mandatory, it can be left empty, and your return flight will not be a problem at the Immigration entry booth, in case they ask.

HOWEVER, it might be a problem with your airline. Many airlines will ask you for an onward travel proof out of Thailand within the first 60 days you will be stamped in. They will not allow you to board the flight unless you show either a fake onwardticket (which I do NOT recommend!) or a cheap budget airline one-way flight ticket for example from Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur that can be booked for $40 Dollar. It does not necessarily have to be a return ticket.

You should contact your airline by email (do not call!) and ask them on their stance, then you will get some reply you can print out and take to the check-in just in case the check-in staff has a different opinion

TDAC is nothing to do with a permission to enter. It's just your passport and arrival info. Problem you may have is showing airline proof of leaving within the 60 days permitted stay.
Pete *******
No, but it may be a problem for your airline. Check with them if they will allow you to board.
