Hello all. I have a 90 day Non O Retirement visa. I’m going the cash in the bank for 2 months route then applying for my 12 month multi entry non o retirement visa. My question / predicament: the non o I have is single entry. I need to leave Thailand in two weeks for a few weeks. Will this affect my status, will I lose the current non o visa I have, will I have to start from scratch again. I hope I’ve made sense here…
Answer summary
The user is concerned about leaving Thailand on a single-entry Non-O Retirement Visa which is valid for 90 days, and whether exiting the country will affect their ability to apply for a 12-month extension. Commenters advise obtaining a re-entry permit before leaving, as this will keep the 90-day stay permit valid even while traveling. They clarify that the visa is only for entry and becomes invalid when entering Thailand, thus the user will need to ensure they return before the 90 days are up and apply for the extension correctly.

Peter Norris no multi any more. Purchase a re-entry permjt at the immigration office at the airport and come back before your 90-day visa expires so you get your 12-month extension

Phil Beer the visa expires when he enters Thailand. The 90 days are a stay permit, not a visa

Greg Alexander nope. The visa expires 90 days after he's stamped in. During this time he gets a bank account, puts ฿800,000into the account let it season for 12 months and a 12-month extension.

Your confused as when he's granted the visa he has 3 months to get stamped in

Phil Beer Yes the visa is valid for those 90 days and is either used or it expires. If used it is still not live as it was a single entry visa and it is used on entry to grant a 90 day permitted to stay stamp, not a visa.

Peter Norris . .to answer your question, you got stamped in for a 90-days stay permit. You can buy a single re-entry permit for these 90 days for 1000 Baht on Immigration, and exit Thailand for a while, but you need to be back in time to apply for the 1-year extension of stay (since this is your original plan). The re-entry permit only keeps the 90-days stay permit active, and not any day longer.

But can you still apply for a re-entry permit during the first 90 visa period, before applying the 12 mths temporary stay permit.

You just need to go to your immigration office and get a single entry, 1,000 baht, if you don’t plan on coming and going a lot it’s cheaper to get a single entry

I did this recently with no problem. Buy a re-entry permit at your local Immigration office or at the airport before departing through Immigration.

Peter Norris . . .Please use correct terminology.

You won’t be applying for a “12 month multi entry non o retirement visa”.

Thai embassies all over the World discontinued issuing “12 months multi entry Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa” in October 2023.

You enter Thailand on the 90-days visa. You will get stamped in for a 90-days STAY PERMIT. The VISA itself becomes invalid upon entry. You are then in Thailand on a STAY PERMIT.

You will apply on Immigration for the “1-year extension of temporary stay permit based on retirement”. The extension is not a visa. The extension is a stay permit. For this "one year extended stay permit" you are going to buy a multi re-entry permit for 3800 Baht, because during the one-year stay permit you plan to exit and re-enter Thailand more often than three times (if less often, then a single re-entry permit for 1000 THB would be sufficient)

Immigration in their insufficient English call this a “visa extension”, ignoring the fact that they technically don’t extend any visa, but the stay permit.

Glennstev Repairman what a load of BS 😂😅😂 . . . . . You apply FOR an extension ON (or AT) your local Immigration office. . . . . . You better avoid lecturing me, you haven't reached my level, yet

Greg Alexander English teacher here. No, you cannot say 'on the office' anymore than you can say 'on the bank', or 'on the airport' or 'on the police station'. It's the wrong preposition and if any of my students wrote that it would get a big red ❌. 'At immigration' or 'in the immigration office' are the only correct options.

Paul Franklin you can say both, because Immigration is an office, an institution. You can apply at the office and also on the office

That 90 day Non-O visa is your retirement visa. You would be applying for a 12 month extension of stay based on retirement, with a multiple re-entry permit.

As to leaving in the initial 90 day period you would need a re-entry permit to keep that visa alive and be back before the date of the current entry stamp in your passport

No more Multi entry, They canned it, you need to get a reentry permit before you leave, You should be able to sort it before leaving or at the airport
