TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand on a Non-O visa based on visiting family, travelers will still receive a physical stamp in their passport, even when using e-gates at the airport. It is advised to print the e-visa received from the Thai consulate, as banks and other institutions may require to see a physical copy of the visa status, and they might not accept a printed one.

At Thai Airports, particularly at Suvarnabhumi Airport where there are Thai Immigration ABC E–Gates in use, a passenger does not have to use the E–Gates....

They stamp Non O in your Visa Page of your passport. With appropriate exit date.

The automated gates are only for exiting Thailand. You'll still be seeing an officer and getting a stamp in your passport for entry.
