I want to share my story here. I'm Canadian.

In my passport I have several exeption visa( the one you got for free when you arrive ) from 2016 and 2017 and 2 tourist visa from visa run done in 2108. In 2019 I've got 2 exemptions , one when I arrived from Canada and another one from a little visa run in Cambodia. Both went well I had nothing to show. Nothing.

But I just came back from the Philippines and They asked me for a returning ticket and money. I showed them but still this was not enough. The guy insisted that I need to apply for a tourist visa from my country. After some negociation, they let let me in with no warning in my passport. I had the normal stamp for visa exemption, 30 days that I plan to extend.

That it, so I will just apply for tourist next time loll. I will not take this chance anymore.

Why don't you just buy a 60 day visa? If you just buy a visa ahead of time, you're overwhelmingly likely to be admitted. Just spend the $40.

 as my Thai friends often say to me "Up to You". We all are well aware of past practices in entering/living in Thailand using various types of access. Yet as you discovered today the game is changing. And with introduction of facial recognition technology and fingerprinting along with an awaited introduction worldwide of an Thailand E-Visa online application process (which is currently in use in the UK among several other Thai Embassy/Consulates)...ones history is immediately known.

Make life less stressful, get the correct visa for your stays in Thailand.

 10 months is nothing come on... 😆

It has changed but a 10 months backpacker with money is not a big deal compare to other "expat" who stay here since 2004.

And even if you have a valid Tourist Visa in your passport, there is no guarantee that Thai Immigration will admit you into Thailand. Its up to the Immigration Officer. Even with 20,000 Thai baht money and a ticket leaving Thailand.. if they suspect you are using many types of visas, visa exempt entries and with extensions, they may still deny you. If you plan on being in Thailand many times or long stay get the correct visa for your stay from your home country.

 a METV from your home country will with planning get you up to 9 months stay in Thailand.

If you are age 50+ get the O-A visa from Canada.....it will allow you up to 2 years of living in Thailand with freedom to come and go.

it seems you spend a lot of time inside Thailand, it becomes time for your plan B and get a visa that fits your purpose of stay.

 but times are changing. The ways of before are rapidly being challenged. Do yourself a favor....get the O-A if age 50+... Or METV ...both only available in your home country Canada.

Then yes 8 month in 2018. And 4 months in 2019.

It is not that much compared a lot of expat. I am a traveler loll and I just love Thailand.
