We're flying to Thailand on the 24th . Just with the one way ticket . We plan on getting dtv in Cambodia . We know immigration will have an issue with not seeing an exit ticket .

Would a reservation to a Cambodia hotel suffice . Traveling by land from Thailand to Cambodia .

TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the concerns about entering Thailand on a one-way ticket and whether a hotel reservation in Cambodia would be sufficient for immigration. Several comments suggest that the real concern may come from the airline when boarding rather than Thai immigration itself. It is noted that while some travelers have successfully entered on a one-way ticket, it’s advisable to check with the airline for specific boarding requirements. Options such as printing a contingency itinerary or purchasing a low-cost ticket out of the country are also mentioned as possible solutions.

It is not the purpose of this post but will you apply your DTV in Phnom Pen ? How many days & how easy it is there because I am planning a flight from Thailand to apply too

the last update on processing time in Phnom Penh is 10 working days. If your application is not complete, or they for other reasons request further documents, the processing time might reset... so allow more than 2 weeks in Cambodia or wait for approval before buying a return ticket to Thailand.

To learn more about how hard/easy it is to apply there and for the specific embassy requirments, use the search function in this group (press the magnifying glass up to the right and type Phnom Penh).

Airline will be fine , I’ve never had an issue like that .

This has been talked about many times, many including myself come on a one way ticket. Airlines may ask, I've only ever been asked about visa requirements. A ticket out of the country before your last day should suffice if asked. Of course everyone will give you there thoughts based upon requirements and rules. Just do it.

Thai immigration won't be a problem. Been flying in on a one way ticket for over 10 years now.

As others have said it’s not Thai immigration that’s the issue, it’s boarding at your departure airport without a visa. Usually a return ticket is required as the airline gets fined for allowing passengers on without required paperwork (visa or return ticket). No a hotel booking won’t suffice. Land crossing ticket might, depending on the country. If it was me I’d just buy a cheap AirAsia ticket somewhere (KL?). It can be less than $50.

Ask your airline

American Airlines allows you to print a contingency itinerary without purchasing a ticket for 24 hours. Their partnering airlines should show up as well. Worked for me.

Immigration is not the problem, it would be your airline that possibly prevent you from boarding so best check with them

I’m hearing that with the 60 day exemption IO have been asking many for onward travel just book a cheap bus ticket

@Sylvia *******
just explain your travel plans they should be ok with that
James ********
Nope 👎...proof of your ticket departing Thailand is needed.

@James *******
not necessarily never been asked in 20 years traveling. I only hear this issue here

It depends on many things- especially your departure airport. For eg in 12 years of travel (once or twice every year) to Thailand from UK I’ve ALWAYS been asked about return flight ticket if I didn’t have a visa.

pardon me but it's VERY common found. As a Moderator on Thai Visa Advice forum I have seen and answered many posts about the need for proof of a flight departing Thailand within the number of days you are STAMPED in on arrival.

It's the AIRLINE which may ASK as they are responsible to return you to your departure airport if you are DENIED entry.

it must be you then that blocks me in this forum when l post something that is not in agreement with the standard responses posted here. I just use mine and others experiences in traveling if people are asked to have onward flight you would have to ask why each travellers history is different???

@David *******
you write "if people are asked to have an onward flight you would have to ask why each travellers history is different"...

That kind of answers the question! It varies, so the OP should have an onward ticket to present, if being asked.

I mean, just because you were never asked in 20 years travelling, does NOT mean they will not ask ANYONE (or even you in the future).

I have been to Thailand 50+ times and was never asked either... However, only a few times, did I travel with a oneway ticket. Meaning if you have return ticket on the same booking they see it in the system and they won't ask. If you travel with a visa they won't ask etc. It varies among the airlines too, some ask for it, some don't.

I believe that a persons travel history (when checking passports) can have some inpact as well, wether they ask to see a ticket or not (especially at immigration).

Being able to present an onward ticket is a formal request to enter Thailand, although immigration rarely asks. They can though... and they can deny entry.

That you and I were never asked to present one, will not help the OP if they are asked for it. "I read on facebook..." wont get them onboard the plane or through immigration.

😉

Hence I still advice to not travel with a oneway ticket.
