TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is confused about receiving a Tourist TR visa instead of a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) after their application was approved. Comments suggest that some embassies determine visa eligibility based on the applicant's provided evidence, often leading to the issuance of a 6-month tourist visa (METV) instead of a longer DTV. Several users share similar experiences and express frustration over the lack of clear communication from embassies regarding the requirements for obtaining a DTV, especially when applicants are enrolled in short-duration soft power programs.

Same happened to me buddy this is terrible behavior that only points to scam. Actually when there is a possibility for such a thing to happen they should say exactly how long your soft power program should be, and also is absurd considering dtv is not a visa for someone who wants to go and for example train muay thai with one camp only, what if you dont like the one you paid for a 1 ear non refundable program and you want to change? Its unacceptable behavior especially when you think their answers are as vague...

Which Thai embassy? They felt your application wasn't strong enough for a DTV and gave you an METV instead.

Just be mindful you have to exit after 90 days on this visa. The length of stay is only 60 days + 30 day extension. The visa itself last for 6 months

This happened to me & caused me to overstay because I thought it was a DTV as well. It’s not. It’s very confusing how they don’t tell you anything further regarding it 😵‍💫

METV is valid for 6 months but can only stay 90 days at a time. So, if you thought you had a DTV, you would think you had 180 days when you only had 90, but should always look at passport

I can only assume they both didn’t look at their visa and didn’t look at their entry stamp since if they were granted a METV they would have overstayed by 120 days if they left at the 180 day mark.

Unfortunately, sometimes. Some embassies will determine that all you need is a 6 month tourist visa and not a DTV. This happened in your situation. What embassy and was it soft power? If so, what was the length of the course?

They did you dirty and gave you a 6 month METV. It’s extra annoying that you can’t apply for a DTV while METV is active…

The embassy deemed that your application didn’t provide sufficient evidence of needing a DTV. Often times this is due to shorter soft power options.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 It usually means they felt there wasn’t enough evidence for a DTV, which can happen with shorter soft power programs. Check out Landscape for more related tips.

You got METV, I guess you had soft power paid for 6months so they assumed you dont need 5years? Sad that some embassies do like this

They must of deemed you not needing a DTV, or you applied for the wrong visa.

There has been reports that people have emailed the embassy and they have changed it to a DTV. But mostly not
