Someone recently posted it is inadvisable to buy successive 90 day non-O visas for retirement in neighboring countries. If this is the case does anyone know why it would be inadvisable? The person gave no reason as to why.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Buying successive 90-day Non-O visas for retirement in neighboring countries is seen as inadvisable due to a crackdown by Thai immigration authorities on individuals living in Thailand without appropriate visas. There have been recent reports of delays and denials of entry for those with multiple entries on these visas. Experts suggest that it's better to apply for a yearly extension from within Thailand instead, as this approach reduces complications and aligns better with immigration rules.

I post this only to advise one not to use what in past may have been a workable way to live in Thailand. Those ways are being stopped IMHO. I wish the OP and others success in their quest to find a proper visa for their needs. Good Luck😉

I know people who have gotten 5 or 6 single entry Non-O visas from Vientiane and gotten 60 day extensions in country between them and they never had a problem

BUT

I don't know anyone who would get a 90 day single entry Non-O based on retirement (seeing as most consulates around here to issue that visa require a police back ground check, a medical certificate, proof of funds AND a letter from your consulate stating you're retired)
@Da***
what's the reason you'd want to get them over and over like that?

Okay, ENOUGH with the denied entry links :/

It is HIGHLY likely that getting a non-O visa from a neighboring country would result in a person crossing IN to thailand by LAND not flying in. Or at least semi-astute people would enter by land.

FYI...the above reports are a few...and note ALL HAPPENED IN RECENT WEEKS AND MONTHS. There is a change in the wind...be prepared.

David...keep life simple and stress free. If you intend on living in Thailand, please get a visa which matches your plan.

I don't know why you would buy successive 90 day Non-O visas based on being over 50 (retirement) more than once. I mean you HAVE to show proof of funds to get that visa at the thai consulates in the area, so there's no reason you couldn't get a yearly extension here in the country from the immigration office once you came in and were stamped in for 90 days.

Thai Immigration likely will question such a person upon return entry into Thailand. Recent reports are those with multiple entries back to back or on Thailand many months in 2018+19 have been questioned and recent reports of denied entry.
