For many years now we have always had an OA multi entry visa. Now we are looking at O visa basically cos the insurance is much cheaper. I know we can get only three months and then extend another but is there any other advantage or disadvantage. Thanking you. We have our own bought home and bank account

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is considering switching from an OA multi-entry visa to a Non-O visa due to lower insurance costs. They note that the Non-O visa initially allows for a 3-month stay, extendable for up to 12 months if financial requirements are met. Key points discussed include the need for a re-entry permit when leaving Thailand and that after the initial 3 months, there are no additional time periods for extensions other than the one full year.

The Non O visa which can be obtained at a consulate/embassy abroad or within Thailand is a 90 day visa. It is extendable but only for 12 months if you meet the financial requirements to do so. There is no other time period to extend it. A year or nothing.

Steve you keep saying non O-A but we are looking at a simple non-O…on Thai embassy website it says with nonO we can extend up to one year…your input would appreciated

Get your Non-O from the eVisa website before you travel is best. That gives you time to get your funds seasoned in your Thai bank account for the extension.

If you're on OA now, you will need to leave the country so it expires. You then either re-enter on a tourism basis (TR or exempt) and get the non-O visa at an immigration office, or you get the non-O visa from an embassy or consulate. Either if these is a 90-day visa which can be extended at immigration for 12 months

Thank you so much! ❤

The extension will be for 12 months so after the initial 3 months the only real difference will be that you need a re-entry permit if you leave (as you did with the OA if you got your 2nd year or extended it). You will need to leave to get your Non-O from outside Thailand.

so if we don’t leave Thailand can we just renew at Phuket immigration

ask Phuket Immigration but I think they'll tell you to leave to cancel your Non-OA then either get the Non-O outside or inside after re-entering on a tourism stamp. Medical insurance might be required outside Thailand (check the requirements for the Embassy/Consulate) but not inside Thailand.
