Had to laugh at this DTV visa process. I got DTV in 4 days in London, no issues, I'm UK guy. Obviously I don't need a DTV as I can get do many days upon entry. The selling point to me was that my Ghanian wife could get spouse visa.

Made application in London while we are over, she gas 2 Yr type C tourist visa, paid the £300, then get told can't get DTV on a type c visa, gotta be a resident.

Visit to thai embassy in London, explained no thai embassy in Ghana. Finally they said you have to go to Abuja in Nigeria.

I asked thai embassy in Abuja about DTV, they said we are not giving DTV to African region at the moment, what a joke.

Maybe in time it will smooth itself out but I will take Thailand off the holiday schedule for the immediate future, not prepared yo travel to Nigeria, too dangerous in my eyes, plus monkeypox there.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares frustration over the challenges their Ghanian wife faced while applying for a DTV visa at the Thai embassy in London. Despite the user's successful DTV application within four days, the embassy denied the spouse's application due to the type of visa she held (type C tourist visa). They were told that she must be a resident to apply for a DTV, and directed to apply in Abuja, Nigeria. The response from the embassy in Abuja indicated that DTV visas are not currently available for Ghanian nationals. The user expresses disappointment and concern regarding safety in Nigeria, leading to a decision to avoid Thailand for future holidays.

Yes, another reason for not wanting to visit Nigeria is that if you want to travel to Thailand from there, you have to fill out a mandatory TM8 health form for monkeypox (it's done online on the Thailand Health Pass website). This is in addition to the yellow fever vaccination requirement.

You do know that a DTV is not intended for people who just go on holiday to Thailand ?

you are dead right there, my mistake. Its just that when i heard about it, i typed in DTV for thailand and you get some questions. What passport you have, where you will be applying from, when i put Ghana and London, it aid i could apply in London but only online. Later in the application it asked if the residence was different to where i was applying from, we said yes. At that point, the system should have said NO, it cant be done. Instead, it takes your money, then tells you no on the application.

All know embassy staff are brutal buy i wonder what the person's thought process was when they casually said " you need to go to Nigeria!"

It would appear that there is NO thai consulate in the area that will allow Ghana passport holder to apply without the 4 week processing time to get the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office clearance 😕

Read the visa section of the desired Thai Embassy.

Also the “General Information” and “how to apply” parts, not only DTV part.

Nothing to do with the DTV, standard processing for people from Ghana applying for any thai visa in the UK

that's right although the embassy did offer an interview in 4 weeks time with the possibility of a short term visa being approved
