🤔 I feel uncomfortable when I see people asking relatively simple question without googling and using search button in a group first. 🤷🏻♂️

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around members expressing discomfort with others asking relatively simple visa-related questions without first utilizing available resources like Google or the group's search function. Some participants argue that the group is meant for sharing firsthand experiences and offering reassurance, especially since regulations can change quickly and may not be accurately represented in older online sources. The conversation highlights differing perspectives on the expectation of basic research before asking questions, as well as the group's role in providing support and information.

they can ask whatever they wants to ask about the visa. as long as that doesn't break the group rules and not being rude

Sometimes you have to ask as you can't see the wood for the trees, even though you may know or have an idea of what the answer is. For some folks it's more an aide memoire or a nudge, especially if you are doing half a dozen things at once and develop brain fog.
Sometimes a cross check or cross reference makes a big difference. Ive sure as hell found it useful and appreciated it.

isn’t that the purpose of this fb page?
Carrie ********
yes, I think it gives a platform for socializing, especially during these socially distant times! also allows to see some opinions and various options rather than just what Google has to say ;)
Neil ***********
there would be no conversation otherwise?

Actually it depends. Some info on Google or old threads here isn’t up-to-date.
very true. Information is constantly updated and thoroughly confusing!

I think Tod Daniels is better than everybody else.

I think there is a middle ground... People should do enough basic research to ask an intelligent question instead of starting at 3rd grade level. And yes - this Group like others are here to help
Tod *********
I hate posts like that because that asshole Tod Daniels (who thinks he's better than everyone else :O ) always gives condescending snarky (yet 100% accurate) answers..
You'd think he was godz gift to people asking visa questions :P
I know visas/extensions for thailand, inside outside, upside down, in a box with a fox.
AND
Before I learned everything there is to know about visas I taught myself to speak/understand, read, write & type thai AND used to review thai language schools in Bangkok for my friends website.
Of course, it is annoying, when Group-Members keep asking the same Question again and again... (without searching the Group).
No Reason to feel uncomfortable.
Just scroll down (and get a Life)...

I'll ask a question and use Google. Usually this group has the best answer. I've a problem with all the smart assets but they now common than flies here rant over!

It’s ok to feel uncomfortable don’t worry 🤣🤣🤣

People like to interact... it’s a form of socializing.
I guess some people like that human connection they get from social media. I suppose in away that's why it's called social media, because people are social.

If everyone did that they'd be no group

Welcome to the new world order - “Do it for me! I don’t know how!” It’s ridiculous and prevalent especially in the good ol’ USA. It runs thick in the gangs of Karens that roam the streets.
With that said, I enjoy all the information presented in the groups. I find it all very helpful. Keep up the good work and keep us dummies informed of the important changes occurring in Thailand.

Sort of like people that can't help making negative comments ..

well the group does have the word advice in the title so i guess anybody having issues with people asking for advice in a group set up to give advice it may be time they moved on
and often the answers are nonsense. A lot of people who don't know 1st hand have a tendency to parrot other people who pretend to know. Somehow we've "evolved" to only require 1 other person to share an opinion for it to become "our truth" haha

Google covid19 Thailand.
Large amount of information, with many links to visas and travel information.
If you ask members to use the search button there will be no content. Why not just scroll past. New members added all the time so repeat questions will happen.
Irene *******
Nothing wrong with it ... maybe they find info in this group more reliable than Google so why not ?
but he’s saying there’s a search function for this group page.....and not many questions haven’t been asked before, one point is that with the information changing as it is there’s something to be said for it being current
hmmmm how many of us would actually do that anyway ... good point though

The questions that annoy me are not "how do I do this" questions, but rather "what will happen in 3 months time" ... sorry, nobody here is psychic and even if we make educated guesses, they'll probably be wrong!
Todd *********
If you think Google is giving you all the answers.... you are the problem
the OP mentioned "relatively simple questions" and using the search function before asking. That's only reasonable.

Once I knew that the “visa exemption” was allowed again I kept checking the London embassy website to see what they were saying about it. Almost a week before they updated their site to show it was allowed. So yes by all means check your local embassy for info, but don’t rely on it as gospel. Don’t rely on some of the answers here too because some are off the Mark, but you generally get much more up to date info from people who’ve experienced it and follow the daily updates.
Chris ********
The whole point of the group is to ask questions and get first hand, up to date answers that googling won't help with. If you feel "uncomfortable" that's just weird.. scroll on dude.

This group along with other groups is here to help and guide people. To some seasoned travellers to Thailand. These new processes can even stump the most technically savvy people out.
Also remember that there are some who are not great with using technology and rely on us to help.
Joey *******
If you feel uncomfortable, then why are you part of this group?
Stuart *********
The situation in Thailand for many things is changing rapidly. Websites rarely update as quick as the information knowledge on this forum. Googling an old answer and thinking it’s current is worse than not googling at all.
Sean *******
That’s the point of this group. Perhaps someone has a direct experience to learn from that is more insightful than what may currently be on Google. We all know things play out differently in the immigration office than a Google search may provide. 🤷
Andrew *****
It’s not just information that that people want sometimes they want reassurance that there doing it correctly I know when I was doing mine the first place for help was the forum
yes that’s annoying when they haven’t even looked at the embassy website but in all fairness information online isn’t all that clear to some people Simi think the groups help massively
Heidrun ********
I totally agree that the group helps and totally fine if people want to ask for clarifications and/or want to confirm things or get reassured. But there are some where you really feel they have not even tried. But overall so be it, the groups are still super helpful and it is what it is :)
