Is it Possible for Retired Canadians to Obtain the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)?

DTV Visa for Retired Canadian – Is It Really Possible?

I’m a Canadian retiree (from Québec) and I’m currently looking into the new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV).

Some agencies told me it is *very easy* for a retiree like me to obtain this visa, but others say it’s *not possible* since the DTV is not meant for retirees. I would really appreciate hearing from people with first-hand experience.

* My profile: fully retired, no financial issues (very high investment income and bank assets, more than enough to qualify for any financial requirement).

* My goal: to stay in Thailand for several months every year without the hassle of making large deposits in a Thai bank like the O-A/O-X retirement visas require.

Here are my main questions:

1. Is the DTV visa truly possible for a retiree (50+, Canadian passport)?

2. Can I apply directly through the embassy/consulate myself, or do I absolutely need to go through an agency?

3. If you recommend using an agency, which reliable one would you suggest?

4. If I can apply on my own, what documents do I need to prepare (income proof, bank statements, insurance, proof of “activity” for DTV, etc.)?

5. Has anyone here already obtained a DTV as a retiree and could share their real experience?

Thank you very much for your advice! 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query raises multiple questions regarding the eligibility and application process of the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) for a Canadian retiree. It highlights contradictory advice about whether retirees can obtain the DTV and how to apply. Responses indicate that the DTV is indeed accessible to retirees, especially those with sufficient financial resources. Many commenters suggest that direct application through the Thai embassy is possible and advise checking specific documentation requirements. Personal experiences of retirees successfully obtaining the DTV strengthen the notion that this pathway is viable.

There are many 50+ on DTVs Inc those moving from retirement visas. There are people in the 70s on the DTV doing Muay Thai. So you can get a DTV and apply yourself online via your local Thai Embassy. You need to decide which route you will take and provide proof of activity as you detail in 4.You should also check the main DTV group on FB for lots of tips in applying.

If you truly have quite high passive income than the LTR retired visa would be better for you. You need 40,000 USD a year in passive income plus 250,000 USD investment in Thailand or 80,000 USD a year in passive income. Then you are good for five years, tax exempt in Thailand, check in once a year and no reentry visas required.

has your answer. Why on earth are you considering DTV if your income is high and/or assets are decent. LTR is BY FAR the superior visa. Simply go online, fill out the application, upload supporting documents and await approval.

I don't don't do it Annual. Both the person who added and me only want months . Seems stupid to Do all the requirements to me .On a side note rude comments are not acceptable in this group.

obviously, the LTR is the far better (and much easier) option for anyone who qualifies. Bad advice is less acceptable
