Why did I receive a fine for overstaying when my 90-day check-in date changed after my visa extension?

Having held a non O visa for 20 years, I have always found that when receiving my new visa extension, my next 90 day check in is due from the date of my new extension. I received my new extension in June & went to do my 90 day check in immigration this month. I was told that I was 2 months overstay as I had not done my 90 day check in as per my previous extension & had to pay 2,000bt. I have never overstayed before. Has this happened to anyone else?
Answer summary
The user has held a non O visa for 20 years and is confused about receiving a fine for overstaying their 90-day check-in due date, which they believed should be based on their new visa extension received in June. They report that they were fined for not checking in within the timeframe of their previous extension, even though they have never overstayed before. The user is seeking information on whether others have experienced similar issues.

Exact same thing happened to me. I had previously done my annual renewal and went to an immigration office for something related to entry into Laos from Thailand and Immigration person claimed I missed a 90 day check in based on my previous 90 day check, not counting from my renewal date. Charged my 2,000 baht... pissed me off royally but I was on extended trip on my bike so I just paid it. Had it been in Bangkok where I live, I would have gone to higher ups. But I was stuck. Made absolutely no sense at all.

Every ninety days in the country needs a 90 day report just do IT, unless you have something in writing that tells you different/new date

OP
Anthony Webb I am aware of that, but not aware Immigration had not reset my 90 day report as in the previous 18 years of being on a non O visa.

My 90 day report was due on the 4th June and I did it online and got rejected so I went to immigration officer. Also my yearly extension was due on the 8th June on consideration till 8th of July. When I went to do my 90day report the io said we will restart my 90day report when I get inked in on the 8th of July so I was over due by 34 days and got no fine

Not overstay just late 90 day report.

you weren't two months overstay you were two months LATE on filing a 90 day report. totally different from overstaying and doesn't affect you (other than the 2000baht fine :P )

Here's how that works

If they DO NOT give you a new 90 day report receipt when you get your yearly extension it means they DID NOT reset your reporting when you got your yearly extension and your report is due when the receipt you have says it's due :)

If the DO give you a new 90 day report receipt when you get your yearly extension it means they DID reset your reporting and it's due on the date the new paper says

You can file a 90 day report in person from 2 weeks before the due date until 1 week after the due date without a fine.

The fine for failure to file a 90 day report on time is 2000baht whether you're 8 days late or 8 months late..

So, even after 20 years on extensions you now know how it works :)

Thanks for explaining that Immigration had'nt reset the 90 days. For 18 years I was using a different office. Last year was the 1st time at my present IO. They did not issue the 90 day receipt ie: reset that time either, so I did my 90 report 90 days from my extension date & didn't get fined, hence the confusion. It was the IO that told me I was on overstay.

that's answered this question for me Tod thanks. I have been here 5 years and this year for the first time I got a paper in my passport resetting my 90 day report based on my extension. It's obviously a bit of a hit and miss system, but I got the feeling they were doing everything by the book this year.
