TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the recent freeze of certain bank accounts in Thailand, specifically pointing out that not all accounts are affected. Users mention that typically accounts from Bangkok Bank, especially those opened in the last 5-6 years, have been impacted, while accounts with Kasikorn Bank remain unaffected. There are calls for individuals to approach their banks directly for assistance. Concerns are raised regarding visa renewals, as account freezes may complicate this process. Some comments joke about the situation, highlighting varied experiences among users.
I have a friend who was with SBC for about 10 years and it was closed last year because funds were sent to it from a scammer account. The account holder was doing an online business so got paid for some services from that scammer and then bang it got closed. This person ended up opening with BB last year. Recently came back to Thailand on DTV but it got closed for the visa. However the other half who was married also had DTV and account with BB not closed. That account had been open quite a long time.
From reports I've seen, only accounts opened in the last 2-3 years by BBL have been blocked.
This issue is separate to the sim registration, which has affected all bank accounts where the account names do not match, resulting in the bank account being suspended.
How is all this playing out with people needing to renew their visa and their account being frozen, will Bangkok Bank still issue statements and managers letter?
We’ve heard of some individuals being able to obtain the letter without issue, while others were required to sign a document locking their funds, and in some cases, banks refused to issue the letter altogether and instead pushed for account closure.
Our recommendation is to open a secondary account and gradually transition away from banks that impose policies that could jeopardize your visa status.
I I have not yet be 'locked out' but I keep my 80k in BB Lang Suan, can I transfer it to a new a/c at another Thai bank without any issue from immigration ?
If you want to switch banks, it’s allowed as long as you never let your balance fall below the required minimum and can show a continuous trail of funds. The safest plan is to transfer during the period when your balance is only required to stay above 400,000 THB (after the 3-month post-renewal window). Start by opening your new account, transfer 400,000 THB first while keeping at least 400,000 THB in the original account, then after a few weeks transfer the remaining amount so the new account holds the full 800,000 THB. Make sure the funds in the new account have been there for at least 2 months before your next renewal.
Keep all transfer slips, bankbooks, and letters to prove the money stayed under your name and within Thailand. With that documentation and proper timing, immigration will accept the new account without affecting your visa status.
We also offer support in case this is too complex, or you would us to handle everything.
they will issue a letter but they require you leave the money in their bank four months before and if not before you must sign a waiver allowing them to seize your money for four more months. It’s a policy they enacted on June 25, 2025.
, it helped me, I put loufed my voice, my daily transferring went back to 50 k, they reduced without informing , to 1k a day. So I warned them, and it worded. Don't lower your wings, they will eat you.
i am happy to have a reasonable talk about the issue without being loud and talking down to the locals. If I don't get what I need that way, I just take my business elsewhere without fuss.
I never said I was rude, I imposed my right, you don't have to tell me what to do. That's a mafia, they have no right to handle customers accounts. Don't defend them , I live since 2005 in thailand , I don't know you. They treat foreigners like shit, after we bring money in. Do your way, I not critizing you, but you don't tell me what to do, I know them well. Stop please, I am annoyed by you.
Not all the bank accounts just Bangkok bank and if it opened in about the last. 5-6 years

Go to service provider. Take passport. They will link your SIM to your passport. They will issue a statement. Take to bank. Finished. Over. 100,000 fake SIM's in Thailand. I also don't think they froze your account. And what are you talking about TM30? Get back in your lane. If you're having an issue tell me. I will help you resolve.
yes. I get my Thai girlfriend to go to 7-eleven and buy a SIM for me. Now SIM is not registered to me. Fake SIM. Under a different name. Maybe "fake" is not correct terminology, but it is not real. If it's not real it is "fake". 100,000 Chinese will tell you.
Blanket statement. The solution is to go to your network provider with passport. They will give you paperwork stating your phone number is linked to your passport. No different than Thai's number is linked to their National ID card. Takes 10 minutes
there more than one reasons your bank account can be locked, 1. There is a mismatch between the name on your phone contract and the bank account 2. They do not have a record of your non o visa (tourist no longer can have a bank account), 3. They have found irregular payments into your account. 1&2 are the most common reason. Its best to take all your documents to the bank for verification, even so not many are talking about quick resolution mentioning 4 weeks++ in alot of cases.
