Hello Community โœจ

Iโ€™m planning a boarder run into Malaysia. I thought I would cross the Thai border from either Sungai Kolok or Takbai Border crossing to make my way to the Perhentian Islands

in Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ

I would like some advice as to which crossing is best to reach my destination.

Thankyou in advance ๐Ÿ™Œ

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around choosing the best border crossing from Thailand to Malaysia for a trip to the Perhentian Islands. Two primary options are considered: Sungai Kolok and Takbai. Sungai Kolok is noted for its better accessibility through intercity buses and trains, making it more convenient for travelers. However, Takbai is described as a quieter crossing with potentially less hassle, despite being slightly less accessible by public transport. Various commenters shared personal experiences and advised on travel logistics, highlighting that Takbai may be preferable for those looking to avoid congested travel.

I agree with the above. I used Sungai Kolok by train a few times last year. It's a long trip. The final part of the train journey from Hatfield Yai is very nice. Expect a near 2 hour wait for a connecting train across the border.. the border check point in the train station is very good. Shame about the wait for a connecting train. If I was going to prnthian island. I would use Tak Bai and spend a night in Kota Baru

I hope you do not drink beer or liquor. Otherwise you will need deep pockets in Malaysia.

How do you travel? Sungai Kolok is a bit more easily reachable by public transportation, but the distance to Kota Bharu and beyond is shorter via Tak Bai. The latter border is also much quieter and less of a hassle. At Pkg. Kubor you can take bus 27 (every 1.15 hours) to KB for a pretty quick trip to KB city bus station. From Rantau Panjang take bus 29.

Sungai kolok city is served by intercity bus and train, so the border might be more convenient in terms of logistics and ease of access. However, Takbai potentially less busy border crossing than sungai kolok
