I know there's no guarantee. But what's the best guess of when bars will re-open in the tourist areas? I'm thinking maybe january, but i'm going to lock-in middle of february to hopefully be safe. But i'm going in february if they are open or not.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The reopening of bars in Thailand's tourist areas remains uncertain amidst ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. The government has indicated that bars might reopen no earlier than January 16. Despite this, some bars are currently operating in areas like Sukhumvit Bangkok and Bangla Phuket, although they face restrictions such as limited hours. There's widespread speculation about future possibilities, but many residents and visitors share concerns about the variability due to the pandemic and government regulations.
It's a large part of life for people on holiday Ethel. Kicking back in a nice place with a few beers and not worrying about getting up for work in the morning. Maybe you would be more suited to holidaying in Saudi Arabia with your judgemental attitude.
Ethel. I try not to be too judgemental about people who reply with a daft "laughing emoji". I live in the far north of Thailand. Tourism is not a consideration there but "booze" is certainly a part of life with the farmers and tradesmen who are my friends there. And has been long before the likes of you decided to impose your particular ideas on how you suppose people should live their lives.
None legally open in the whole of Thailand, theres some in Bangkok and Phuket open but I hear the bib like collecting tea money. Jan 16 is supposedly the earliest and they may have to be SHA+ certified
What do you call "tourist areas"? Bars already open in Sukhumvit Bangkok and Bangla Phuket. I understand also in Samui but can't vouch for that. Where are you planning to go?
The latest statement from government for reopening the bars was "not before 16th of January". That was before the Omicron panic. There's no way for a "best guess" right now, it's all just like this here... 😁
