TLDR : Answer Summary
In light of the upcoming travel date to Bangkok on January 6, 2022, many expats and travelers are expressing concerns about potential lockdowns due to the Omicron variant. Comments reveal a general apprehension about reintroducing restrictions such as increased quarantine periods. Some predict a return to 14-day quarantine measures and express worries about overall travel disruption. Others point out that speculation is rampant and that the actual measures will depend on evolving circumstances and governmental decisions. There is a sentiment of uncertainty, as many feel they are relying on news updates to guide their travel plans.
No chance worst case scenario is Thailand will keep the 24 hour quarantine and expensive PCR test let’s not forget this new variant is not putting people in hospital it’s like a bad flu
...wenn ich die thailändischen Nachrichten richtig verstanden habe, tritt heute das Kabinett zusammen um über eine Neuerliche Schließung der Grenzen zu beraten!!
I think they will follow the example of other countries that is to restrict access from countries in the southern African region. Unless if the omicron strain becomes prevalent then they will lock down again.
Normally they act with reversed logic, so with that in mind they shouldn't. I hope to go soon so if they read this they might know we know and not change!
I hope you're right. When did Delta become a thing in Thailand? Not being sarcastic I wasn't paying attention when Thailand reacted (or didn't) to that variant.
they had just reduced Quarantine times for everyone and then Delta hit and they increased them back to 15 days for everyone and no leaving hotel room at all (before then you could go to the roof or a private area once per day for an hour to get out of your room). I'm not sure the exact timing but it caused a lot of people to have to change their ASQ reservations.
That's actually very helpful...I'm going to inquire at my ASQ about avaialbity for 14 days if need be. Was that this summer? I came back in July and left last week...ugh. I should have been more careful before I left.
i don't recall when it was. I was already in Thailand so it didn't effect me. I'm not sure what will happen with sandbox though. They may go back to only Phuket sandbox since they can control island entry much easier.
Though last time they stopped the lockdown they said there was no going back so if they stick with that I don't expect too much to change except maybe a few countries being banned for a couple months.
World governments are not collaborating in unison. Each instead doing their own thing throwing the world into chaos... Everyday you get the same old BS from world leaders.
