Are bars or restaurants open in Koh Samui? In Chaweng or Lamai? I'm traveling down from Bangkok soon. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Currently, bars in Thailand are officially closed due to national regulations, but many restaurants are open for dining. While bars may not serve alcohol, some places may offer drinks in a more informal setting. Overall, the drinking culture may feel subdued compared to previous months, but there's still a vibrant restaurant scene in Koh Samui.

many, many restaurants are open. Bars are 'officially' closed. But if you can't find a drink on then islands... the problem is likely you. Life is normal. Don't let those trapped in BKK and Pattaya influence you from the reality of the situation
very, very good situation and feel overall on Samui. Has been excellent since day 1. It's fantastic really. Just no longer a drunken party zone. Amazing time to be here man. Don't hesitate.

Now Todd, I don't know if life is "normal" over there. I saw this video yesterday and it doesn't look like the place I visited two years ago! 🤣
No bars or pubs open anywhere in Thailand. Restaurants open but cannot legally serve alcohol. It's a national ruling

But is it being followed there? I've been in a few restaurants (more like bars though tbh) in Bangkok recently and had alcohol.

Daniel Armstrong. Which is why I said "legally". There are plenty of news articles already about foreigners who have been caught illegally drinking in bars and restaurants, and they start crying when they're arrested and fined. I don't know if any people on Samui are going to list the bars that are illegally selling alcohol!
