What was your experience with obtaining a DTV visa through a cooking school in Chiang Mai?

Got my DTV Visa approved today, and wanted to share the relatively painless process!

I'm doing soft power, through a cooking school in Chiang Mai that has a program made for DTV. I paid 63,000 baht for a program that's supposed to last for a minimum of 140 hours of cooking classes, and it took about a week from applying to the program to getting a pdf file from them with all the DTV info I'd need for proof of enrollment.

Following that, I applied for the DTV through the Chicago consulate on July 9th. I just got it approved today (July 16), a total of about 6 full business days. I enclosed the DTV pdf file from the cooking school (after reducing its size), a picture I took of myself on my phone, pictures of my passport page, and a bank statement for June of this year. My bank statement also held notably more than the minimum requirement.

All in all, both faster and less painful than I was expecting. Aiming to land in Chiang Mai in two months to kick off my stay in Thailand!

Did you have a physical appt at the Chicago consulate? I am trying to figure out where in the USA would best for me to apply next year, and am not living near anywhere near any city that has a Thai consulate, however Chicago is where im looking at so I can stay with friends/family in Milwaukee during the process. But not sure how ready i need to be/short of notice an in person meeting may be

I haven't seen any reports of USA consulates requesting interviews. This is more common in SEA consulates. Just speculating, but maybe it has something to do with the wide areas of the consular jurisdictions.

you are to Apply to the Thai Embassy or Consulate which serves your state of residence in the USA. Using the Evisa online application system.

Be sure to carry with you ALL the documents used to apply for the DTV visa. As Chiang Mai Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival appear to be questioning those who have the DTV visa. The Chicago Thai Consulate is wonderful πŸ‘.

Thank You for your helpful report πŸ‘

Congratulations πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

It's a very flexible course, but I'm aiming to do 1 6-8 hour class each week, learning 4 recipes per class. Classes can be scheduled to be as frequent as 5x a week or as infrequently as 1/month (or somewhere in between, which I'm doing). The amount I paid for was for 20 of those classes.
