Hi I was planning to come to Thailand (chalong) for six or seven months in February 2023. I am from the Netherlands. I was wondering what is the best way to go about it and which visaβs I need to apply for, when and what is needed for them.
Thank you for the information you share with me.
Kinds regards Zuzanna

TLDR : Answer Summary
To stay in Thailand for six to seven months, the best option is to apply for a Multi-entry Tourist Visa (METV) from the Thai consulate in the Netherlands before your arrival. This visa is valid for six months and allows multiple entries, with each entry providing a 60-day stay. After 60 days, you can exit Thailand and return on the same day via a nearby country, like Cambodia, to obtain a new entry stamp, effectively extending your stay. It's important to verify any requirements for exiting and re-entering Thailand as part of this arrangement.
Do i need to fly out of the country and spend a minimum of time outside (around 24 hours) or can i just take a bus to lets say Cambodia, cross the border and get the new stamp at the same day as i go in again? Thank you!
you can go to a land border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country turn right around and stamp back in to thailand to get a new 60 day entry stamp

get a 6 month METV <- multi-entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here
That visa is good for 6 months from the date it's issued, it's unlimited entry during its validity, each entry is good for 60 days, when the 60 days runs out, go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and right back into thailand to get a new 60 day entry stamp
IF you time the bouncing correctly you can get almost 9 months of stay out of a visa good for 6 months.
