What visa options are available for a South African to stay in Thailand for six months?
Good day, I would appreciate any advice I can get! My husband and I are moving to Bangkok with our little boy at the end of July. My Mom is joining us so that she can look after my son until he is 18 months ( in July he will be 11 months). As South Africans, I know she can get a 30 day visa that can be extended for another 30 days. Is there another visa she can get that will allow her to stay 6 months or does she need to do a visa run every 2 months? Very stressful for her and us. TIA!
Answer summary
The user is seeking advice on visa options for her mother, a South African, who will be accompanying their family in Bangkok. They mention that the mother can obtain a 30-day visa extendable for another 30 days but are looking for alternatives that would allow for a longer stay. A solution offered is the Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV), which would enable her to stay in Thailand for up to 9 months with exits and re-entries every 60 days.

she can get a 6 month METV <- multi-entry tourist visa. That would let her stay almost 9 months (in 60 day increments)
She would have to exit/re-enter the country every 60 days

If she is over 50 perhaps an extension of stay based on retirement?
