Hi All, I am hoping to move to Thailand in the near future and need advice on which visa would be best for me.

I’m 59 years old and married to a Thai, so my question is, would a retirement visa or a marriage visa be best for me or any other visa for that matter. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on whether a retirement visa or a marriage visa is more suitable for their move to Thailand at age 59, being married to a Thai national. Comments suggest that the marriage visa has lower financial requirements, while others recommend the NON-O (Long Stay) visa for its long-term benefits, which allows for easier entry and extended stays.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

Thanks for everyone’s input, all seems a bit easier now. luckily I work in London at the moment so not too hard for me to get to the Thai embassy. Thanks again.

All the thai consulates in the US used to issue the O-A visa then they changed it and now you can only get them at Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Washington DC.

They did the same in the UK, before all the consulates could issue O-A's but now it's just London. :/

I dunno why :(

I would say get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa from the thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here.

That visa requires a police background check and a medical certificate BUT you meet the proof of funds by using the bank account in your country. The visa is good for a year from the date it's issued and has unlimited entry/exits with each entry getting you stamped in for a whole new year <- meaning you can get TWO years of stay out of a visa that is valid for one year.

It's the way to go and is far <-as in by leaps and bounds superior to any visa/extension you can get INSIDE the country once you're here.

@Tod ********
. Sorry. You are referring to a Retirement Visa, I have Spouse Visa. My apologies.

@Pe***
, Right that consulate doesn't issue Non-O-A visas I was at their website.

You would have to have used another consulate BUT you could have gotten the O-A visa instead of just an O.

This is what the thai consulate in Brisbane says on their website

, what consulate in Australia were you applying at? Australia is like the US, NOT every thai consulate can issue an O-A visa BUT believe me you CAN get one there :)

.

Funny that. I could not get an O-A visa in Australia, but only an O-M. Some countries must be different.

right (y) , the O-A visa is sold as a multiple re-entry meaning you can come in and out all you want to for the validity of the visa and each time you enter you're stamped in for a whole year.

@Bob ******
like I said, in order for you to have an O-A visa you need to go back to the US and BUY a new one at least every 2 years.

When you enter thailand on it you're stamped in for a whole year.

I hav that visa since 2011 it’s a combo of both at least from USA

@Bob ******
IF you don't go back to your country every 2 years and BUY a new Non-O-A visa you don't have one :O You can't get O-A visas from inside of thailand OR from a thai conusalte in a country you don't legally live in.
Bob *******
O Gorman Trevor I s what I have since 2011 the best one

@Bob ******
you look at the website of the thai consulate you are getting the visa from and see what they list as far as how you can meet the financial requirements. Each one runs a little differently so there's no concrete answer for you :?

@Tod ********
