Hi,

I have been living in Thailand for 10 months on an OA visa. I intend to have a 3-month break back in my home country when this OA visa expire. Next year when I return to Thailand, I am planing to stay for 9 months, should I apply for an O visa in Thailand or OA visa for 9month stay in Thailand? Appreciate your suggestions. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, living in Thailand on an OA visa, plans to return home for 3 months and then stay for 9 months in Thailand. They seek advice on whether to apply for an O visa or an OA visa upon their return. Comments provide insights on the key differences between the two visas, highlighting that the OA visa requires health insurance but not proof of funds in Thailand, while the O visa requires financial evidence but not insurance.

Hi Stuart . When applying for the OA back in UK can i show the 800,000 balance in a building society or Investment company or does it have to be a bank account. Thanks.

not really sure. My guess would be ok for building society. No idea about investment company. Drop them a line via messenger and ask.

Two key differences. With the AO you don’t need to show any money in Thailand but you need health insurance.

With the non O you need money in Thailand but don’t need insurance.

Depends on which is the easiest/best option for you.

: AND with an O visa you can only stay 90 days. So you need an extension of stay for which you also need the money in Thailand.

Yes. If you apply for the non o in country you’ll need to keep those funds available for the extension.

i would prefer not to shift money to Thailand, my uncertainty really is, can I buy a 9month insurance for oa visa if I only intend to stay 9months and not 1 year.

@Kent ****
You can buy a 12 month policy and cancel after nine months and get refund for remaining amount. Talk to arawan namak

@Kent ****
Absolutely. You’ll be stamped in for a year or however long your insurance is valid until.

That’s the way it works for entering. Your embassy may insist on a full year for the application.
