TLDR : Answer Summary
A Nigerian looking to enroll in a TEFL course in Thailand should consider applying for a tourist visa from the Thai consulate in Nigeria, as changing the tourist visa to another type within Thailand may not be feasible. Additionally, to obtain an ED visa, one must first secure admission to an approved educational institution and obtain necessary documentation, which may be challenging to find for TEFL courses.

From experience you cannot change your tourist visa when you get to Thailand especially as a nigerian, so it's better you get a school to admit you and then use it to get ED visa from Nigeria after you have done your NDLEA clearance

I once lived in Thailand and it's so difficult to get the Non ED visa inside Thailand it must be from your country of origin and you must have a school you want to go in mind, without that I don't think it's that easy

AFAIK: no one can go from a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry to a 90 day ED visa inside the country for attending a private school.

Everyone gets their 90 day, single entry Non-ED visa from a thai consulate in another country.

In order to get an Education visa you would need to enroll in a course that is approved by the Ministry of Education, get paperwork from them and the school offering the course and then apply to get a 90 day single entry ED visa.

I don't know of any TEFL courses that offer ED visas.

You would apply for a tourist visa from the thai consulate in Nigeria or from a country where you legally reside.

You cannot apply for a tourist visa at the Thai consulates in Lao or Malaysia as Nigeria is on the list of countries prohibited.
