For US Citizens, working remotely in Thailand, what type of medical insurance have you picked? I'm getting rid of my US medical insurance (will hardly spend any time in the US the next year), comfortable being uninsured for Dental (I have access to a dentist in Bangkok), but do want some kind of digital nomad insurance for catastrophic only coverage. I'm 56, excellent shape, very fit, no medications.

I'll be bouncing around Asia for the next 6 months, so don't want something that only works in Thailand.

I'm currently leaning towards Auras: $ 309 for 6 months. What have other people in a similar situation picked?
Answer summary
A US citizen inquires about suitable medical insurance while working remotely in Thailand. They seek catastrophic-only coverage, feeling comfortable being uninsured for dental purposes. The user is interested in options that cover travel throughout Asia and is considering Auras' offering. Comments suggest various alternatives like Allianz, Genki nomad insurance, and other international private medical insurance options. Some responses advise selecting policies with high deductibles to reduce premiums and emphasize the importance of getting adequate coverage for medical emergencies.

Something to keep in mind is that the out of pocket costs, unlike in the US, will usually be lower than a deductible of $4,000 or more for most medical services. You can pay for most medical procedures out of pocket, especially in countries with excellent healthcare like Thailand and Malaysia. So if you do get a plan, get one with a zero or low deductible for emergency major in-patient care, even if that means paying a higher premium. Most "digital nomads" and "slow travelers" go with either Safety Wing Essential or Genki Traveler.

If you need global coverage don’t go with any Thai company. The savings will not be worth it. IMHO

Here you go , For digital nomads in your situation, most people move away from "travel insurance" like Aura and towards international private medical insurance (IPMI) because it offers higher limits and renewable cover. For catastrophic-only protection that works across Asia and worldwide (excluding the US to save on costs), plans from **Allianz Care**, **Cigna Global**, or **April International** are very common choices. At 56 and in excellent health, you can significantly reduce your premium by selecting a high deductible (e.g., $5,000 or $10,000), which effectively turns the policy into catastrophic-only coverage. To give you a better idea of what would fit, could you let me know: 1. Which specific countries in Asia will you be spending the most time in? 2. Do you have any specific requirements like coverage for adventure sports? 3. How urgent is this for you? You can ask yourself here :

Mo Bugs 1. Based in Thailand primarily (have a 5 year DTV) but will visit Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Bali..and a few more. 2. No adventure sports, I’m pretty risk averse. 3. No rush and no immediate needs, so let’s say within 7-10 days.

Auras itself is a sales platform (Aura Global FZ-LLC, registered in a Ras Al-Khaimah free zone, UAE). They don't underwrite their own policies. The actual carrier on the paper is "IC EIG LLC," licensed out of Anjouan, Union of the Comoros. The problem is that Anjouan's "Offshore Finance Authority" - the body that issued EIG's insurance license has been publicly disowned by the Central Bank of the Comoros as not having legal authority to license anyone. The IMF, World Bank, and FATF have all flagged Anjouan/Mwali licenses as essentially paper certificates with no real supervision behind them. So there's no functioning insurance regulator, no guarantee fund, no ombudsman to escalate to if a claim goes sideways.

May I recommend this as an agent?

Allianz is the No.1 insurance brand.

Travel insurance starts from just 185 USD per year.

Feel free to message me for more details

Allianz is the No.1 - lie. How come you have no decency whatsoever?? Allianz $185/yr is travel insurance with per-trip limits and ~$50-100K medical caps. It won't cover digital nomad use case read the fine print on max trip length and "covered reasons." you are selling commission, not coverage.

Lucian Veridex Oh, why so aggressive hah I’m just sharing options in case it fits the ppl’s needs.

The terms and coverage still need to be checked in detail.

I said Allianz is the No.1 brand, I didn’t say it’s the best or better than others. Every company has its own strengths. Take it easy 🙂

I’ve submit one for a travel loss and it was fully refunded in a few days, and it was 10’s of thousands of dollars.

You seem to have a real chip on your shoulder. Are you always so aggressive and arrogant?
