What steps should a German expat take to obtain a NON-B visa and work permit for Thailand from Germany?

Hello,

I'd like to ask for advice, especially from fellow Germans in this group :)

I'm currently in Germany getting ready to go back to Thailand. Since my work permit and non b have expired, I need to get new ones. The Thai Embassy in Berlin gave me a list of documents I need to submit in order to get a non b visa here. One of the required documents is the WP3/Work Permit or a document which states that I'm approved to get one when I'm in Thailand and it has to be issued by the Thai Labour Department. My school spoke to the Labour Department and they said I need to submit the medical check and the police background check (along with other documents of course) and I'm really confused since I also have to submit a police background check at the Thai Embassy in Berlin and I'm not sure if it's enough to get one only in English, same with the medical certificate.

However, long story short question: Are there people here in this group - especially Germans - who got a non b and needed to submit a work permit in order to get it as well? I'd like to know how you got the WP3 when you weren't in Thailand and what documents you needed to submit - especially as a teacher. Thank you in advance / Vielen Dank im Voraus! :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A German expat is seeking advice on how to obtain a NON-B visa and work permit from Germany after their previous permits have expired. They are confused about the required documents, such as the WP3 work permit and whether checks need to be done in English. Comments suggest alternatives like entering Thailand on a tourist visa and highlight that the WP3 application must be submitted in Thailand by the employer.

Just FYI: WP3 is a work permit application, and your employer needs to apply for WP3 IN Thailand for you who is NOT IN Thailand. You cannot get WP outside Thailand, you only can have the receipt of the application. If you need a police & health check for a work permit, it means those documents are required for application IN Thailand. You need to prepare those documents separately (means two sets) for your application at the embassy and wp application in Thailand.

I don't wanna hijack any posts, but German or not, you get to Thailand as a tourist, sign a contract with your school, and they go for/with you to immigration for a non-b and then to the labor dep for a work permit

That works when your employer can provide all necessary documents for you to apply in-country visa/work permit. (Not all employers can meet the requirements for the in-country process)

I initially thought wp3 is the work permit but since you just pointed out its the application I realized they're two different things haha! Currently researching - thank you so much!

Be sure you talk with your employer and they can provide all necessary documents for you to 'convert' your visa type in Thailand before you dive in the route that

suggested.

Why not just get a single entry tourist visa or enter the country on a visa exempt entry and then apply for the 90 day Non-B visa inside the country at the immigration office?

That way you don't need any of the WP3 receipt, the back ground check etc.

I didn't know it's possible to change a tourist visa into a non b visa inside Thailand - will discuss it with my school, thank you :)
