I am a American extending my Thai non-immigrant visa. My Myanmar wife is on a spouse visa attached to mine so her's mus extend at the same time. We were married in Myanmar and we have all the OG documents and translations.
Thai immigration has asked for a copy of our marriage certificate translated to English and certified by the Myanmar Embassy. The Myanmar Embassy tells us they cannot do it, only in Myanmar.
Thai immigration wants a document certified by Myanmar saying we are married. Seems like we are certifying certifications. Any ideas?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American expat in Thailand is facing challenges in extending his non-immigrant visa alongside his wife's spouse visa due to the requirement for their marriage certificate to be translated into English and certified by the Myanmar Embassy. The embassy claims it can only be done in Myanmar, leading to confusion over certification processes. Community members suggested contacting Myanmar agents in Thailand for assistance, sending original documents to Myanmar for certification, or utilizing translation services that offer legalization services. The conversation highlights common frustrations with paperwork for immigration and the importance of ensuring all documents meet the requirements of Thai authorities.
Option 1: Contact one of Burmese (Myanmar) agents who can get into Myanmar embassy in Sathon through back doors. There are some Myanmar lawyers residing in BKK so they know and ask if they can ask the embassy staff to endorse the notarial translation of marriage cert or not.
Option 2: If NOT, ask your wife to send original document via DHL/TNT/EMS to trusted person (relative/best friend) to get it done in Myanmar. This has to be endorsed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It might 7 - 14 days (end-to-end) depending on how fast that person can do. At the end, you’ll find it non-sense but you need it for your visa process. Good luck!
It sounds like they are looking for proof that you are still married, and having the embassy certify your marriage certificate is one way of achieving this. Perhaps have your wife call the embassy and explain
Same problem with a Laos marriage certificate. Had to go to Vientiane to get it stamped, then go to the laos embassy in bangkok to stamp the stamp. Ridiculous and actually meaningless. Business opportunity for a rubber stamp maker. 😂😂😂
Marriage certificate if not in English must be translated and certified by authorized authority in home country. Once certified in home country, it can be legalized at its Embassy in Thailand and Thailand MFA. Hope this help.
Shouldn’t be that difficult given your wife is Burmese. Ask her to look for agents willing to do certification of original documents at MoFA for a fee in Myanmar. So many agents these days willing to do it without your physical presence inside the country.
