Hi Guys

Our family is looking to move to Thailand next year,

I’m 47 and have my own business here in the UK which I can run online.

My partner is 45 and is a carer? Is there any English run care homes in Thailand she could work in?

We have a 15 year old who wants to do hairdressing at college over there.

We also have a 13 year old daughter is there any schools you can recommend ?

We are looking for somewhere quiet but not to far away from a city/town is their any area you can suggest.

Also looking for 6/7 bedroom villa with pool and air con to rent long term that doesn’t come with added tourist tax if you could point us in the right direction all help and advise would be appreciated 🙂

TLDR : Answer Summary
A family is planning to move to Thailand and has questions about job opportunities, schooling for their children, and suitable areas to live. The husband runs an online business while the wife, who is a carer, is uncertain about finding employment in that field. They also seek schooling options for their 15-year-old interested in hairdressing and their 13-year-old daughter, as well as recommendations for long-term rental properties away from tourist areas. Community responses indicate that job opportunities for foreigners in caregiving are limited due to local workforce preferences, and schooling can be expensive with a focus on international schools. Suggestions for potential residential areas include towns near Bangkok with large expat communities.

So many people are looking to move to Thailand to live now ,so this is why Thailand ,unless your investing and providing jobs,Thailand isn't interested in jobs for farang ,as they want jobs for Thais and look after their own population 🙏🏼

Every Thai Embassy has the list of jobs reserved for Thais. You have to look for it but it’s there. All visa requirements are there as well.

You may need to research age care / disability homes and facilities specifically aimed at foreigners as that maybe your wife's only hope with her English language skills..

I believe these exist in Thailand but there are not many and the company would need to sponsor a working visa for your wife.

It's a long shot but at best but worth some investigation.

Or your wife may need to consider a career change to English language teaching as that's one of the few job opportunities available in Thailand.

But she would need to gain some kind of teaching qualification before attempting to find a job and again a work permit would need to be sponsored by any school willing to hire her..

lol"a career change ".....it's not for adults

I had a career change at 60 years old..

Just depends on the individual and when there are very limited options in Thailand you have to consider anything.

, sure, I agree and it's just my opinion. I've worked in quite a few schools in Thailand, and still maintain my point of view. I'm not talking about plush international schools and salaries. I'm talking about government schools. It's a very tough tough thing to put up with for so many reasons from so many angles

If she is a professional caretaker/ nurse, there might be openings at facilities, who cater to Foreigners

Also, a lot of rehabs that are aimed for Foreign patients are working with professionals from abroad

"My partner is 45 and is a carer? Is there any English run care homes in Thailand she could work in?"

Not likely. Foreigners have a minimum required to salary to qualify for a work permit, and that salary is 2-3x that of a Thai person's salary. They will not hire your wife for what they can hire 2-3 other employees for.

"We have a 15 year old who wants to do hairdressing at college over there."

This is a restricted profession in Thailand, so even if they can find a school for it, they will not be able to practice it or actually work on this profession in any way in Thailand. It's only for Thai citizens.

"We also have a 13 year old daughter is there any schools you can recommend?"

Take note that school expenses are the largest for most expats in Thailand. Expect to pay over 1 million baht per year per student for good schools.

"We are looking for somewhere quiet but not to far away from a city/town is their any area you can suggest."

You should look for a home based on the schools you choose.

Your partner won't be able to do that job role I'm afraid and neither will your 15 year old as those job roles are for thai nationals only . Online remote work is all that's open for foreigners

@Emma *******
no, there are jobs foreigners can have, but you’re correct in that those jobs are Thai only. Teaching is a good idea for the Mrs., if she has a degree.

my lad wants to go to collage there then look maybe for him to move to Australia to do it

@Simon *****
hairdressing is a restricted occupation for Thais only, so as a result it is only taught in Thai.

Why not have your partner home-school your 13 year old and mentor you son into your existing business? I'd be mentoring my partner into the business as well. The best employment prospects for westerners in Thailand is going to be some type of remote or digital nomad type of work.

@Andy *******
why would anyone home school a child? It's outright neglect to keep children locked away from their peers
Andy ********
@Aaron ********
Home schooling = neglect. Wow, that is quite a reach. I can't join those dots I'm afraid.

You need to settle on a couple general locations that suit you.

You got no chance. Thai people do those jobs ..
Madz ******
You'll need more research, those jobs aren't generally open to anyone not Thai.

our story is we lost dad last year my brother lives in Australia and my mum is moving to Australia to be with my brother I can’t get in because of my age.

This is why we are looking at Thailand to be able to get 12 month tourist visa in Australia and be closer to family.

The possibility is my lad wants to do hairdressing at a Thai collage then we are going to try and get him over to Australia where he can stay with family.

My partner is looking for care work over there if she can just to get out and about to meet people.

We get enough income from businesses to relax but she likes getting out and about is there anything easy she can do ?

Teaching English is the easiest thing. Lots of work about, but need proper qualifications to make decent money, but if that's not an issue, then you can get (really bad paying) teaching roles.

I've lived, worked, holidayed in Thailand for over 18 years, and if you throw yourself in, there's plenty to do. Happy if you want to share my info with your wife if she has questions. Can't guarantee I'll be able to help, but certainly experienced as a woman 'expat' / traveller 😄🙏🏽

@Madz *****
what kind of qualifications might you need to teach?
Ste *******
I would suggest Ryong or Sirasha. Both busy Towns, near Bangkok, on the coast, international schools with large expat communitys but away from the Tourist hotspots.

I don't think foreigners can do jobs Thais can do, regarding your wife. And all the old farang men already have young carers, sorry GFs! 😅
