My boyfriend overstayed in Thailand for 1 year now we want to leave can he pay the fine and get the blacklist in the airport or what should we do ? Please any help

Update we left he fot 3y blacklist and 20 000 thb fine
Answer summary
The user seeks advice on how their boyfriend can leave Thailand after overstaying his visa by one year. The main advice from the community highlights the need to go directly to the airport, book a flight, and have 20,000 THB ready to pay the overstay fine. He will likely face a three-year blacklist, but it is crucial to avoid interacting with immigration offices or local police to prevent arrest.

If I was you, and you like being able to travel to Thailand, sneak out somehow. It’s dangerous but doable. Otherwise you might end up in jail or banned for life. Thailand is one of those places where money can solve most problems.

Best thing he can do is surrender himself. They might be lenient depending on the story. If you go to the airport he will most likely waste his ticket money because they will detain him anyway.

Lallo Edoardo Orsi No, there is no legal way to leave Thailand without going through immigration. All official border checkpoints—whether at airports, land borders, or sea ports—require you to pass through Thai Immigration to clear your passport and log your departure.Attempting to bypass immigration checkpoints is highly illegal and carries severe consequences. Here is what you need to know about the process and the risks of trying to avoid it:

Me what I used to do was go to Malaysia and walk out. The cops are lazy and do nothing. Then go stamp in to Malaysia and fly out from there. And apply for a new passport when you want to return. The new passport number will throw them off. I lived there 16 years playing with this. In the end I check out at Malaysia. And sneak back in but not stamp. Sneak in is walk beside other farang who just stamped in. Then I'd stay a year at a time. Sneak back out and stamp back in so I could fly out of bkk.

It’s never a good idea to plan to overstay. Sure it’s “only a 500 baht a day” fine if you happen to make it to the airport.

There are various horror stories of people that didn’t and were stopped at police check points prior to that and if caught on overstay can he subject to detention and banned for 5 years. Very rarely happens but it could.

Also numerous posts in the visa forums that an overstay stamp from Thailand isn’t an issue to re enter Thailand but has caused issues with applying for visas for other countries.

1000 baht for the fine versus 1900 baht for the extension may seem the cheaper option but in the long term it may bite you in the backside.

I had a five day overstay by accident a few years ago. I had a 60 day visa. Spent a week in Bangkok and then went to Vietnam for a week. Back to Thailand and traveled around for another 35 days. Bringing my total to 49 days. Taught I was well covered with my 60 day visa. Unfortunately I was given 30 days when I reentered Thailand. When I got to the airport departure to check in my luggage and get boarding pass it was flagged I had over stayed 5 days. Airline said they could not put our checked luggage on the plane till we had gone through security and paid the fine. Paid fine and all was good.

I overstayed for 50 days about 10 years ago. Go straight to the airport as soon as possible.

Passport control took me by the arm to a woman at a desk just a few feet away and was instructed to pay 20.000 baht which I obviously had on me at the ready.

The officer told me that I was very lucky that I went to the airport. She said “we are nice here, but make sure your friends always come to the airport if they overstay. Never to the police.” I paid and they stamped my passport and I left. Probably took 15 minutes. Yours is more serious at a year but shouldn’t be a problem. Leave at least an hour for processing.

Look presentable. Nice clothes. Shave. Etc..

My friends overstayed their Thai Visas and on the way to Vietnam each had to pay their 20,000 ฿ fine. Three days later we flew back to Bangkok. The girls were taking the side by Italian immigration and given a very thorough grilling about overstaying and they had to produce a ticket to another country to prove that they weren't going to stay on again for too long in Thailand. Meantime I was waiting outside the immigration doors anxiously waiting to see if the girls would be allowed back in! They were.

Go through security check as normal.

Go to passport control and when it’s your turn explain he’s on overstay and apologize. The officer will check and call another officer who escorts you to the office. The officers there will ask for payment of the fine; stamp your passport and give you a deportation notice confirming length of ban and a receipt for the fine payment. After that he can go airside as normal.

The officers are professional and polite. He should be polite and apologetic.

They are very used to this.

Don’t worry. Just go quickly so as to avoid the possibility of getting caught.

When you overstay in Thailand, you should leave the country voluntarily as soon as possible. You can normally go to the airport, report the overstay to Immigration, pay the fine, and complete the process before leaving Thailand.

The overstay fine is 500 THB per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 THB.

If you leave voluntarily, the blacklist period is:

• Over 90 days but not more than 1 year → 1-year

• More than 1 year → 3-year

• More than 3 years → 5-year

• More than 5 years → 10-year

It is very important to leave voluntarily before being arrested, because the penalties are much more serious if you are caught while overstaying.
Tomasz ********
Tomasz ********
@Sherlyn ************
when extending stamp in IO I signed document with consequences of overstay. But does it make a diffrence if I not extend my stay, and not sign such document?
Sherlyn *************
Sherlyn *************
@Tomasz *******
No, it does not make a difference. The document you signed when extending your stay is only an acknowledgement that you understand the consequences of overstaying.

Even if someone never applied for an extension and never signed that document, the Thai overstay rules still apply once their permitted stay has expired.

The fine and blacklist are based on the length of the overstay and whether the person leaves voluntarily or is arrested, not on whether they signed the acknowledgement form.

The recommended steps are:

1. Book and confirm your flight out of Thailand.

2. On the day of departure, arrive at the airport earlier than usual, ideally 4–5 hours before your flight.

3. Check in with your airline first to get your boarding pass and check in your luggage.

4. Then go to the departure Immigration area and tell the Immigration officer directly:

“I have overstayed and I would like to surrender voluntarily and leave Thailand today.”

5. The Immigration officer will check your passport, calculate the number of overstay days, and process the overstay fine and record before allowing you to complete the departure immigration process.

6. Prepare 20,000 THB in cash. The overstay fine is 500 THB per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 THB, and it should be paid in Thai Baht.

**** Please prepare 40,000 THB in cash for two people. The maximum overstay fine is 20,000 THB per person.

They don't want the administrative issue as you are already leaving.

If you have any interaction with local police and get detained then it's an immigration total cluster.

I've personally been involved with both those situations and the overstayer that surrender on the way out fair well.

Chris Chriszaa u have no idea or experience... Sometimes it's cheaper to overstay for 2 or 3 days than pay B1,900 for an extension; or in other situations its cheaper to stay & pay the fine rather than having to fly out of the country for 8 hrs or so & then fly back in asap.....

Cruise Chan There are many possibilities. Thai immigration may know where he lives (TM30) and his name comes up on the list of people to go after today. Or he could get into a car accident that involves the police. Or he could get stopped at a checkpoint. Etc. When you violate the law, the law may eventually catch up to you.
Michael *****

Hugh Stirling Probably not. As far as I know, the airlines don't share data with immigration or vice versa. Coming into Thailand, you have to fill out a TDAC (which is with the Thai government, not the airline), but nothing when leaving.
