What should we know about the STV visa and its extension options for living in Thailand for 9 months?

Hi all !

We are a couple planning to go to Thailand for 9 months starting from mid-September till end of June 22. The only thing is that we need to be in Europe three days beginning of April.

We were counting on the STV, entering Thailand somewhere in September, and then extending it for 90 days mid-December. And then leave before April and come back (either with a re-entry permit, or re-applying for a TR at that moment).

Now, I see the STV stops being issued on the 30th of September. Does that concern also the the potential extension of the STV once you have it ?

If yes, does that mean we would then to leave in January as well, so going through the quarantine after receiving a TR, or is there any possibility to get the TR or something else from inside Thailand..

Final question, is there any issue then getting three successive Tourist visas within 10 months ?

Thanks so much in advance for responses.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A couple is planning a 9-month stay in Thailand but is concerned about the expiration of the STV and its extension process. They need to travel to Europe in April and are considering whether they can apply for a Tourist Visa (TR) or obtain re-entry permits. Responses indicate that the STV may not be a viable option post-September 30, and they might need to leave Thailand earlier than planned or opt for a different visa strategy.

We went yesterday to the Embassy in our country regarding STV visa, and they said that even if we obtain one, we need to leave Thailand by Sept30th 🙄 So it's basically useless

It wouldn’t work because STV holder who entered Thailand after 3 July is not eligible to apply for extension already.

The Special Tourist Visa is the WORST visa choice out there. AND no one knows how it will really work after Sept 30th <- the day the program runs out.

Get a single entry tourist visa, come in get 60 days, take the 30 day extension and look for long term visa options after that
