Can I get a 60-day visa exempt stamp whilst still having a valid ED-visa?

I have a valid ED-visa until August 21st. I applied for a schengen-visa so I got a Thai re-entry stamp to help with the application process. I'll be flying back into Thailand on August 14th - meaning I only have 7 days left on my current ED-visa.

My school told me that I could void the reentry stamp at border control and try to get stamped in for 60 days instead. Has anyone tried this before?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is inquiring whether it's possible to receive a 60-day visa exempt stamp when returning to Thailand with a valid education (ED) visa. They hold an ED visa valid until August 21st and plan to return on August 14th after submitting a Schengen visa application. They mention their school advised that they could cancel their re-entry stamp and request a 60-day entry instead. Community comments suggest caution, as attempting to void a valid visa may lead to complications with Thai immigration authorities.

If you want to void your education visa then just come back after the 21st.

Why would any Thai school give such [bad] immigration entry advice?

There have been a number of people arriving on ED visa extensions of stay being refused entry for leaving Thailand while they are meant to be studying. I wouldn't recommend confusing the issue by trying to get some other stamp

As it appears ....from reading your post....

...that you are now on an Ed Visa extension of stay, so you are studying a language...

...and have departed Thailand to visit a Schengen Visa country in Europe...

... and will be returning to Thailand on August 14th...

.... But you have a valid Ed Visa extension ending August 21st...

.... and want Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival into Thailand to stamp you in as Visa Exempt Entry 60 days...

... and ignore the valid re-entry permit now in your Passport... valid until August 21st.

Be prepared for questions from Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival...

...Why did you go to visit the Schengen visa country while you were still enrolled in a school with your Ed Visa ...???

...And expected to be attending classes ???

When did you end your school studies?

If you ended study, why didn't you visit the Thai Immigration office which issued the Ed Visa STAMP in your passport and cancel the Ed Visa ?

So what you're wanting to do is fly in on the 14th

BUT

not have them stamp you in on the valid extension/re-entry permit and instead stamp you in on a 60 day free stamp?

As Lloyd said, you can ask. .. ... BUT remember the immigration officer at passport control is under no obligation to do what you want. In theory you are supposed to get stamped in on the ED visa/extension w/re-entry until that extension runs out.

Good news is; it'll only go one of two ways ๐Ÿ™‚

The immigration officer WILL let you in free-stamp (visa exempt) for 60 days

OR

You'll get stamped in until Aug 21st and have to either get a new extension with documentation from your school at the immigration office or you'll have to exit/re-enter to get a 60 day free stamp entry

If you are not on a Non-ED Visa but on an Extension of Stay then that may create a difficulty for you as this type of EoS has to be cancelled. Don't go interfering with stamps in your passport as that can get you into even greater trouble if that is what you mean by voiding it.

You can ask, that is all.
