Before this entry I was in thailand for 22months straight, now visited my home country for 4months for a new passport and stuff. This was 5th or 6th entry in total

My embassy adviced me to carry the old passport with me, but the IO didnt want to see it. She only asked what Im doing in Thailand and I said remote work, stamp and go.

This was the first time Ive been asked anything at all.

Ive been saying long enough, the passports most propably will be linked thru biometrics and hence the number in the visa is not an issue. And thats how it went in my case 🤗🥰
Answer summary
The user shares their experience of re-entering Thailand after a 4-month break to obtain a new passport. Despite previously living in Thailand for 22 months, the immigration officer did not request to see the old passport and only asked about their purpose in the country (remote work). They believe that biometric linking of passports minimized potential issues with the visa number. Comments include others' experiences with similar situations and advice on carrying the old passport when traveling.

Flew in last night with new passport, DTV visa, DTAC. Everything was online as the IO studied it all. Right hand screening, left hand screening and two thumbs. I got through without a hitch. Nice to be home.

As you are more than 180 days a year do you have a tin? Or ever been asked for any thing regarding tax residency?

Aaron Love never been asked, but ive been doing the report since the rules changed. Paying taxes to my home country, that covers everything due to the DTA, but still have to report

Just so you know. I have been asked for the old passport randomly on the 3rd entrance on my new passport.

I would still carry it when going out if I was you, just in case.

i will, since my embassy suggested it. I showed the email to qatar airlines when boarding, because the trainee wasnt sure about how stuff works, his superior came and said everything ok after seeing i carry 2 passports. Forgot to mention that in the post, but thats more airline stuff than dtv

Just to be clear, in my case: it was the thai immigration officer asking for it, not the airline.

Good to know but not all countries return the old passport when issuing a new one. So it really should not be a solid requirement. I will carry my old passport though. Just in case 👍😄

The two entries is limited to exceptions visa types… any other type of visa has its own entry criteria. In this case it doesn’t apply obviously!

dtv apply under tourist visa criteria without onward ticket needed, as far as i know and have experience, been asked for a ticket every time entering with exempt/tr before. Never been asked to show

dVT visa has the obligation to leave the country within 180 days… but you can also have multiple entries .. it doesn’t apply to 2 just entries per year. You can entry Thailand 20 times in one year with DTv visa if you want to.. DtV visa requires to proof

0 baths in a bank statement for at least last 3 months before apply. Tourist visa and multi entry and I think also visa exceptions may request

Almost all the reports we see about difficulties upon entry are by anonymous participants. The verifiable ones refer to being asked to complete a Passenger Statement Form at either Phuket or Chiang Mai Airports and almost always upon first DTV entry.

Thanks Toni! Confirms what we already knew. Length of stay isn't an issue. You were asked one of the two universal immigration questions; 'How long you stay?' and 'What will you be doing whilst you're here?'

Trolling is posting lies with malice (as in creating and spreading misinformation). There are no verifiable reports of anyone being interrogated for spending up to 180 days in Thailand during each stay. Only oft repeated ‘opinions’ that DTV wasn’t intended for anyone to do so. Complete garbage.

That’s great to know that the old passport is not required. I have a DTV sticker in my old passport.

I literally just landed an hour ago at DMK (maybe 15-16th entry with DTV, but only 2nd entry with new passport).

I have my old passport with me but decided to keep it in my bag and just showed the IO a picture on my phone of my old passport page with the DTV sticker.

All went smoothly. 2-3 minutes only. 👍😄

If you are on the DTV visa, it's not possible to be in Thailand for 22 months WITHOUT having to leave Thailand and reenter Thailand.

IF you mean that you have been in Thailand for 22 months by doing a BORDER BOUNCE or 2, that's understandable.

Glad you are enjoying your DTV visa 👍

you’re the one that needs to go back to school. You said ‘almost nobody’ lives in Thailand without leaving and you seem to think 80% is almost nobody, and still want to argue the point. Are you that thick or just being obtuse? How on earth do you make a living with a brain that works like that?

the 20% of 80 million is 16 million. If you think 16 million is "nobody", that's a math problem on your side.

@Elías *******
you know what it means. The OP said they had been here 22 months straight, whilst talking about entry, so it’s clear what it implies, hence all the questions. You have not been here for 24 months straight. And if you really think that about Thai people then I doubt you even live here! Most of them never leave the country!!
Elías ********
Elías ********
@Nick ******
define straight, because if you consider being out of the country for even one single day as not being straight, then almost nobody, including Thai citizens live here "straight".

All incoming travelers fill out the Thailand E-Arrival card which requires you to input your name, your passport number and your visa. Surely that would be the easiest most straightforward way for how Immigration knows you have a DTV, because you declared it in advance and declared your current passport number.
