What should I expect when re-entering Thailand with an LTR evisa for multiple entries?

So we're in Bangkok, which is great and the new life begins tomorrow!

I was granted an LTR evisa and when I presented this at immigration, it was clear the lady did not know what to do and called her supervisor.

He checked it all, spoke to her and left.

She correctly wrote LTR in my passport on the stamp but when I asked her about multi entries, she suggested I needed to show the evisa document every time.

Hopefully someone on here can clarify. When I leave in Oct for a short trip back to the UK, what should I expect in my passport and what do I need to do on re-entry please?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has been granted an LTR (Long Term Residence) eVisa but faced confusion at immigration regarding entry stamps and the necessity of presenting the eVisa document upon re-entry. Community members clarified that the eVisa document is the key for multiple entries into Thailand and should always be carried and presented alongside the passport. They advised printing multiple copies of the eVisa instead of relying on digital copies, and provided tips for navigating immigration effectively.

Can one go to the LTR office in Bangkok and have them cross the hall with one’s passport/self to immigration and “transfer” the evisa and multiple entry to the physical passport?

@Bo *****
no. One is issued by the MFA and the other is issued by immigration. They're not exactly the same thing so you can't just trade over to the other one.

Print out several copies of the LTR VISA.

Don't rely on showing it from your cell phone.

and get it laminated to protect it.

dunno that I'd do that seeing as they can access and re-print it any time from the email they got from eVisa

I'd say just fold up a copy and keep it in their passport to show when they enter the country

I’m a Neanderthal. I laminate a lot of stuff to prevent it from getting torn up in my backpack while traveling🤣

Make sure you enter through the fast track gate between the 2 normal immigration stations (arrivals 2). The officers there are used to seeing LTR by now mostly.

Make sure you also take advantage of fast track when you're leaving Thailand as well. I've NEVER had to line up for security and never had more than 1 person in line in front of me at passport control. I always use the exit near counter 1.

I've tried to go through fast-track when leaving but they rejected me. They said it's only for business/first-class passengers and not for LTR visa holders with economy tickets. Do you have a reference that shows it's for LTR visa holders?

Show them the visa in your passport or your printed e-visa. And don't say LTR, say BOI, they'll let you in. Sometimes they call over someone to ask though.

there is a list posted on the wall at the entrance to the FastTrack that indicates who can enter. It clearly says LTR visa holders are welcome. I’ve used it many times with no issues.

I agree came in two weeks ago and the ltr visa was mentioned ! But some of the , mostly girls, who check if you are allowed are sometimes not really well informed. Just ask for a higher up official

I have family with me on other visas. Will they let me take my family with me?

I'm not sure about family. I've tried it with friends traveling together with boarding passes showing sitting together but always been denied. But they've all been Thai so they go to the Thai passport control which is quite fast and then I go through Fast Track and we meet on the other side.

Sadly it sounds like you applied for the LTR thru the eVisa website or elected to have the visa issued by your consulate before you came here (rather than apply thru the LTR/BOI website, show up here free stamp and go get the 10 year visa inked in wtih a 5 year multi-entry stamp and a 5 year entry stamp) 🙁

What that means is you need to CARRY that PDF which is your visa for the next 10 years and show it with your passport every time you stamp in to the country.

As I said, that PDF copy IS your visa 😮 It's what let's you in to the country and it's what says you hold a multiple entry Long Term Residence visa.

Unless something has changed, Mike is right. The OP may be confusing the letters that are given authorising the issue of the LTR that need to be brought to the BOI one stop shop to have the visa inked in, with an eVisa.

The LTR by itself isn’t multi-entry, they stamp a 5 year re-entry permit into your passport opposite the visa at the same time.

you are mistaken the LTR is sold as a multi-entry visa when you get the PDF file issued thru a consulate

The only time you get the VISA, then a 5 year re-entry permit and a 5 year stamp is if you ENTER thailand on another entry then go to Cham Churi to get the LTR inked in

If you get the online eVisa LTR you cannot get it inked into your passport, you just get the PDF and a 5 year entry stamp when you arrive

Ah, that sucks. They always scan my re-entry permit when leaving, so the OP may wish to show the eVisa when exiting Thailand. Immigration are generally getting better at knowing how to process LTR entries/exits, but In my experience they consult a superior at least half of the time.

To my knowledge, the LTR visa can only be obtained through BOI. I am an LTR visa holder by myself.

Yes, you apply through the BOI online, but you have the option to choose where you receive your visa if approved—either at the OSOS Chamchuri Square in Bangkok or at a consulate or embassy abroad.

you can actually apply for the LTR thru the eVisa website at the thai consulate in your country without any problem OTHER than all you get is a PDF for the visa for the next 10 years

OR

You can apply right thru the LTR/BOI website

You can apply for the LTR Visa only through the official LTR Visa program website. Once approved, you can schedule an appointment for LTR Visa issuance either at the Royal Thai Embassies or Royal Thai Consulate Generals overseas, or at the One Stop Service for Visa and Work Permit Center in Bangkok.

In your screenshot, it shows an application for an e-visa. However, they will request notification of approval, which can only be received through the LTR program website. In other words, there are two steps: Application Submission (via the LTR Visa site) and Visa Issuance (which can be done via e-visa if available in this country).
