My flight is next Thursday and my status has not changed from pending approval since December 16th at ny consulate. Not an ask for documents or anything. I did email them the week prior but still nothing. Do I actually need to cancel my flight or try to get it moved? I’ve already booked stays and appointments for dental. I’m learning now that NY takes a while, it’s been almost 6 weeks. Anyone else waiting for approval through nyc?
Update: received my approval today Monday 01/19 two days prior to flight lol
Edit: since I was approved I thought I share what I submitted.
•American citizen applied in New York
•I provided 3 months of bank statements which they did say I could use my investment account as proof as well and this is only accepted at certain embassies.
•I went the medical soft power route since I have a Invisalign work and a few implants that have to be done which is over a year and a half of work.
•I provided my emails showing I have an appointment for Invisalign consultation. And the invitation letter from the clinic
I made a small cover letter for the finance proof section, proof of location, and soft power proof. Each cover letter i wrote using notes on my iphone and screenshot it. No need to go crazy on ising programs. I put my name date and what cover letter it was. With finance proof i explained this was three months from x to y month, showing x amount of money in USD and in baht. Then for soft power proof i pit name date and explained the work im planning with the clinic as well as provided the address on the cover letter and a page with the picture picture of the dentist that i got my the offices website. And explained that the emails provided are proof of appointment. For the location cover letter i just stated what each document was. I showed my phone bill with address, bank statement with address and my flight email from new york.
I have a MacBook and just converted my different files into one jpeg.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience of waiting for a visa approval from the New York consulate, which was still pending just days before their scheduled flight. After initial concerns about potential cancellation of their flight and accommodations, they received approval just before their flight date. They provided detailed information about their application process, including the documents they submitted, such as bank statements, medical evidence for dental work, and cover letters for each section. The discussion drew advice from community members on contacting the embassy and potential flight rescheduling.
Try and reschedule your flight to be on the safe side. NYC is infamous for slow approvals. Have you contacted them via their social media sites? that sometimes helps speed up the approval.
yeah only thing that sucks is my stays are paid for. So I’ll likely lose that smh my partner also took off to help me get there too haha that was my first contact and they oddly got back to me on 1 January.
