TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing a situation where they bought a car in their own name, with their Thai girlfriend as the guarantor. After a breakup, she wishes to withdraw as the guarantor. Community responses generally agree that as long as the user continues to make payments, there should be no issue with the guarantor wanting to withdraw since she signed a legal document and is liable for the contract. Some comments suggest finding a new guarantor, contacting the finance company for direct advice, or even paying off the car loan to avoid further complications.

She is not allow to withdraw as guarantor. As long as u keeps paying the monthly installment . Nothing will happen . If u hate her Stop paying the installment.

This sounds like a sort of revenge tactic after the breakup. You need to keep a clear head and not to stoop to her level and fight nasty with nasty. I can’t see her legally bring able to withdraw from being guarantor once sighed. However, if she won’t see sense, I would contact the bank in person and explain the situation to them. If you’ve kept up all payments to date, I can’t see them wanting to terminate the contract. The alternative would be to say nothing snd just carry on making regular payments. Good luck.

A car is a nice status symbol for a Thai girl ... let’s think here... what’s the total cumulative interest on the loan before it’s paid off? Are you responsible for the monthly payments? (Do you like BTS?)

Since you live and work in Thailand, it sounds like you may need to remove her name as a guarantor... sounds like she was helping you out and has a good heart to offer to be a guarantor...

you can choose to refinance the loan, pay it off, or do nothing. if you prefer the latter but your ex-bird has a strong enough preference to avoid that, you can suggest her to offer something in return for your cooperation. i can't really see what the problem is for which you require a solution.

If it was the other way you wouldn't want to be a guarantor would you?

She's being decent about it, she wants out so find a way to sell it or any other option to release her from a contract you both entered together.

This is best because thailand has laws and best not to test her.

The best advise and don’t listen to people’s comments

iGo contact a lawyer and or the bank for advice and possible options. Next time do not get involved in an arrangement like this unless you are married.

She can’t do anything about it. If you want the car, keep paying and you will hve no problems. If payments are not made, she is liable. This is possibly the first time I have heard of a Farrang having a Thai by the short and curlies. Well played 😂

😂😂😂😂Farang (فرنگ) is a Persian and southeast Asian word that originally referred to the Franks (the major Germanic tribe) and later came to refer to Europeans in general. The word "Farang" is a cognate and originates from old french: "franc".. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I think that Wikipedia definition is a little more complex than your average Thai would define Farang. I have heard Thais call Middle Eastern men Farangs... they just use it instead of foreigner

@Karim **************
That’s not correct.

The word „Farang“ in Thailand came up in Thailand (nowhere else) due to the inability of Thais to pronounce the word francais. The French were the first to set foot into Thailand. Thais called them farangsai because they can’t pronounce 2 consonants (f + r) without a vocal in between. After that, they developed a shortcut, leaving the last syllable behind.

The word here in Thailand clearly refers to caucasians, no blacks, no asian foreigners, no arabs or any other race.

the original definition and the actual use, are two different things Frank. Thais, 100 % call Middle Eastern people farangs! That cannot be disputed because, it’s fact!

You obviously don’t understand the true nature of Thai personality.

Thais act and speak emotionally, not rationally. Hence, all people with a fairly white skin are Farangs for them and they won’t check their nationality first before calling them this or that word. This cannot be disputed because it’s fact haha (what a childish way to argue).

I have lived all over Thailand, north, south, east and west. I have a decent understanding of Thai personality and, I don’t keep my association to bar girls. Lower and middle class Thais refer to anyone west of India as farangs, barring Africans. And yes, that is “fact”, Frank, full of infinite wisdom.

Hahaha. As I said, childish.

And obviously suffering from over-compensation of complexes as mentally balanced people don’t need to state their opinion above of those other people in an arrogant way like this.

If I would be egocentric and self-overwhelmed like you, I could tell you now what my Thai-expertise is and where it comes from. But I don’t need that as I am confident enough without doing so.

is it possible to go to the finance company and explain it to them, maybe they could transfer it into someone else,s name . seeking legal advice is available however the original contract is between the bank and her. how much is owed. would she transfer the car into your name if it was paid off. do you have a new partner who could help.

Nothing to worry about. The only issue if it isn't in your own name. I'd still double check that. You can sit and pay the money and even sign something. But doesn't mean what your signing and buying is in your name. That's Thailand im afraid. Seen it before. If it is genuinely in your name your fine and lucky you was smart enough to get it in your name
